Awesome!

I am such a major failure when it comes to this vegetable thing. I'm better than I've ever been before, but it still doesn't come close to what my body needs. Last week, I had one salad. The week before, two. One serving of fruit last week, and no other servings of vegetables at all. :-[

But, I am doing a lot better with water. Pretty much taking in 60 oz daily. Slacking on weekends, but still...
While I'm not quite as bad as you in the area of eating of veggies, I have made a concerted effort to increase both my fruit and vegetable consumption.  I've started making smoothies in the morning.  I'm now getting 3-5 servings of fruit with breakfast alone.  I'm getting better on the veggies too.

I'm on my way to McD's right now. I'm gonna try to force myself to order a salad. I wish I could get into smoothies. It actually might help for my new *over 26 cravings* for sweets at nighttime. Those things be having me baking brownies at 1:00 in the morning! LOL! I could try smoothies instead. Can't do it in the morning though. I barely have enough time to get dressed. LOL

*waves* Hey bro!! Good idea on the smoothies. I may try that.

Almost went to McDonalds because of the French Fry thread. I didn't though. Your girl had her keys and purse and was ready to go out the door.
Right now I'm eating the Lean Cuisine Chicken Club(sooooo good) and mandarin oranges.

Yayyyyyy T-Block! We're glad to have you. Make sure you grab an accountability partner (you may want to choose one based on your goals). LL will probably be happy to help.

As an update of my goals: I'm really proud of my life change. I set out to change my lifestyle and that's what I'm doing.

Water - I now drink water daily, as a habit. When I'm at restaurants, I order water with my meals. When I'm at home, I drink water with my meals. I drink water pretty much all day, every day. On the rare occasion that I feel like having sweet tea, I indulge myself - but those moments are few and far between.

Vegetables - Although I'm still not eating vegetables the way I should, it has become a habit to order a salad with meals when I eat out. (I'm still finding small ways to add veggies where I can, like on pizza, sandwiches, etc. I know that's not big, but remember, it lends to my lifestyle change because before, I would never put a vegetable on anything!).

Skin care - I'm taking much better care of my skin, too. Although I don't see much of a change, two people (my sister and a co-worker) have asked me what I'm doing and said that my face looks "good." That's huge!

I did gain 10 lbs, but I recently learned where that weight came from (so embarrassed about that), and although I'm not going to try to shed the extra pounds, I am going to be conscious from here on out.

Exercise - I slacked off on my workout, but I still walk 1 mile a day, faithfully. Sometimes more. My legs are HOTNESS!!!  :D :D :D 8)

Financial - I have my money directly debited from my checking for savings and investments. I don't touch it, so all is well in that area. Still need help with this shopping addiction, but I think it's an emotional issue, so I don't really know how to fix it.

Spiritual - Hmmm. I'm gonna give myself a C on this one. Both my prayer life and my study habits have slacked off a bit. That's disappointing since I was doing very well in this area.

How are the smoothies working for you guys?

I might have to get myself a blender and try that. I have no problems with fruit, though. I love fruit. I just need to find a way to get veggies into my diet. :-[

I have one daily.  I get all of my fruit in one meal.  I've been doing it so long, I couldn't really tell you if there are any discernable benefits.  But, I'm glad to know I'm at least getting my fruits in.  I'm still working on the veggie intake.

Impressive. It's so easy to be inconsistent or get off to a good start and then slack altogether. Glad to know you're still doing this.

Wanna share a recipe or two? There's a group in my office that makes smoothies every morning. They put yogurt, orange juice, and different fruits in there. I once asked for the recipe but they were quite evasive. ::) How silly. LOL

The one I use the most is this:

8 oz Orange juice
1 cup of yogurt (It can be plain or any flavor.  Don't worry about it being plain.  With all the fruit, you won't notice.
Strawberries (Add whatever amount suits your taste.  I usually use 4-5 large or 5-6 medium.
1 banana
1 tbsp of honey (I've gone without it too.  I can't tell the difference)
1 handfull of blueberries

Sometimes, I'll throw in an apple or kiwi or something else.  Apples change the consistency of the mix.  I usually use the skins as well.

The mix above usually yields a 20 oz drink.  I drink it in one sitting, but you can break it up however you like.  Just keep in mind that the longer it sits, the more the fruit settles and it'll feel more chunky as time goes on.  Also, you can pretty much use any fruit.  Experiment to see which ones affect flavor and consistency.  I mix it up a lot, throwing in blackberries, mango, cantelope, watermelon (after picking out the seeds), etc.  Have fun with it.  Enjoy!

Your point regarding consistency is a valid one.  I'm more like that with exercise.  I haven't missed many days since I first announced using smoothies here a while back.  Nowadays, it's second nature to do it.

That's awesome, LL. I'm pretty much inconsistent with anything that requires effort. For example, I can see myself running low on fruit, but not feeling like going to the grocery store. After a day or so, I'd be out of the habit. :-[

That's how I do with vitamins, too. I'll run out and forget to buy more so I won't take vitamins again for months or even years. LOL.

Thanks for the recipe. I might try that (with raspberries, blackberries, peaches, and watermelon - and maybe some blueberries or pineapples on occasion). I'm kinda excited. Oh and ixnay on the honey. I hate honey so I won't even bother to try that one (even though you said you can't taste the difference. I really hate honey so I'll probably notice it)

And my sister was trying to get me to eat smoothies and told me to put spinach in them. She said that with all the fruit and stuff, you can't taste the spinach. What do you think?

That's a great idea!  I'm going to try that myself.  The only thing I can foresee is using too much spinach will make it a bit gritty.  But, spinach is one of those "superfoods", so I may be willing to put up with a little grit in the name of health.

Okay good. I was hoping you'd be the guinea pig. :D :D :D

Let me know how you like it. I'll try it if you can recommend it, knowing how very finicky my tastebuds are.

Yay!!! Well be sure to share your goals and updates (only whatever you're comfortable sharing - as you can see from the first page of the thread). We just want to encourage you and cheer you on, and plus, someone else may be motivated, encouraged or driven based on your experience.

It's quite beneficial to me. I only wish I remembered to post more frequently. :-[

Good deal T!

So, is it possible or does it sound weird to have an accountability partner to pray and read?! I mean at least till it becomes a habit for the person?!....
