How's your stuff coming along, Jonathan?

Pretty well, actually. My wife said she noticed a bit of slimming down around my trunk area so there must be something going on.

Haven't really gotten a plan for exercising, per se, but I am using the stairs at work much more often (as my knee allows :-\). :)

I started to bold the "using the stairs at work much more often" but then I wanted to bold the "slimming down" and the "pretty well" parts too. Anyway, it's ALL awesome!

Good for you and a HUGGGGGGE congratulations!!!

It's pretty much just standing up on the ball of your feet and bringing them back down (don't bend your legs), but you don't let your feet touch the ground. Bring them close to the ground, but don't let the touch the ground....

Not sure if I explained that well lol

Yea, I'm not feeling that door idea. But, it may grow on me.  :D

But, thank you for the congrats.  The real test is when I go back to the doctor's next month to see if there's actual progress to my goal weight (for this three month period).

WEIGHT WATCHERS ZERO POINTS GARDEN VEGETABLE SOUP RECIPE
Hands-on time: 20 minutes
Time to table: 1 1/4 hour
Makes 9 cups

6 cups broth (today I used Light Vegetable Stock)

Cooking spray
2 carrots, peeled and diced
1 large onion, diced
4 teaspoons garlic (from a jar or substitute four cloves minced garlic)
1/2 cabbage, chopped (or use a bag of slaw, the biggest chunks you can find vs the fine, don't skip the cabbage for it somehow makes the soup)
1/2 pound frozen green beans
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon kosher salt

1 large zucchini, diced

Bring the broth to a boil in the microwave. (This is a time-saving tip that can be skipped if there's no hurry.)

Spray a Dutch oven with cooking spray and heat on MEDIUM HIGH. Add the carrots, onion and garlic and cook for about 5 minutes. Add all the remaining ingredients EXCEPT the zucchini and bring to a boil. Cover, reduce the heat to MEDIUM and simmer for about 15 minutes or until the beans are tender. Add the zucchini and cook until the zucchini are tender. Serve and enjoy!

NUTRITION ESTIMATE
Per Cup: 61 Cal (3% from Fat, 24% from Protein, 73% from Carb); 4 g Protein; 0 g Tot Fat; 0 g Sat Fat; 13 g Carb; 3 g Fiber; NetCarb10; NetCarb10; 52 mg Calcium; 1 mg Iron; 701 mg Sodium; 0 mg Cholesterol; Weight Watchers ... hmmm ... 1 point

NUTRITION NOTES This soup is low-cal, low-carb, high-fiber and no-fat. But hmmm. What about the claim that it has no points in the Weight Watchers world? I suppose so, since all the ingredients are "free". But honestly, a calorie's a calorie and so I count every one of them whether from chocolate cake or fresh vegetables. In my book, this Garden Vegetable Soup counts as 1 point but is a definite one-point winner.

KITCHEN NOTES
Zero point soups are easy to make without a recipe. Just cook a pile of non-starchy vegetables in 6 cups of a non-fat broth. It's even easy to convert one-point soups to zero-point soups.

I didn't use the cooking spray because the carrots and onions generated enough moisture to sautee without it.  I also didn't use the basil or the salt.

Just by doing things you didn't do before (or not doing things you did before... lol), I'm almost certain you'll see some progress. Keeping my fingers crossed!

If you're going to try the parking thing, try it now before all the snow, freezing temps, and stuff comes. :)

Oh yeah, I do that all day every day. That's a good one for building calves. That. Joint. HURTS. But it works.

Gracias!! It sounds good (minus a few veggies that I don't eat... lol). I'm going to pass it on to my sister.

It is really good.  Each of these foods is on the fat burning foods list, which basically means the process of digesting them burns more calories than they have, or they contain some properties in themselves that cause you to burn more.

ROFL!

(What is caggabe?? :-\ :P)

You can add meat, I'm sure. It just won't be a zero point soup. But the fat burners are still there. I'd add a low-fat meat like some grilled chicken/turkey breast or even some grilled shrimp if you eat seafood.

Cabbage tastes a little different in a soup. Have you ever tried it in a soup? Hard for me to say much because I actually like cabbage (can't do the zucchini or green beans, though). But my sister hates cabbage, and can tolerate it in soup.

Girl, I'd try to explain it, put it would take too long.  :-\ :D

Because I'm 'all in' on the this whole 'lose weight to be around for my daughter thing' I'd try the cabbage this once to see.

But, I'm tellin' you, I'm not a fan.

And, adding shrimp sound like the move. *slow head nod*

Yeah, I suggest you develop a taste for the cabbage, lol.  But plenty of lean meats are also fat burners, like Rue stated.  I'm sure if you grilled it, it would still be a very healthy dish.

The onion was a lot when I chopped it all up, and that kind of scared me.  Most of the dish is cabbage and onion, but once it's cooked, the cabbage and onion kind of blend and you can't really tell which is which.  The sauteeing onions, carrots, and garlic smelled SOOOOO good...

Another thing about cabbage (and again, I'm biased because it's one of the few veggies I actually like), sometimes it can depend on how it's cooked. Some people prefer it soft and mushy, some prefer it firm (steamed), and some only like it crispy (like in cole slaw). Try to think back to the time(s) you tried cabbage, and remember how it was prepared. If it was mushy (YUCK), this time, try it steamed. If you tried it steamed and didn't like it, this time try it cooked a little longer to make it soft. I always hated cole slaw, but I tried some when I went white water rafting, and I actually liked it. *shrug*

I just recently started liking cole slaw, too!  It was after I made a salad with shredded cabbage that I started to really appreciate how good it is.  Before that, I wasn't a fan.

And I didn't like cooked cabbage or collard greens either until I tasted some this first lady in Vegas made for my aunt's funeral.  The cabbage and greens were mixed, and the people made our plates so I didn't get to refuse it.  It was soooo good!

Me too.

The two most common repast or church fellowship dinner items are green beans and chicken. I don't eat either of those. I hate wasting food, and I hate having to look at food on my plate that I don't like/eat (like when they give you hash browns at IHOP or Waffle House). So I usually try to let somebody know ahead of time that I won't be eating, or ask if they have something else. But if that doesn't work, I will pick around my plate in a heartbeat.

Now I like collard greens. And I like cabbage. But I would've had to separate them, leaf by leaf... lol. I can't eat food mixed up like that.

LOL @ that small print. Yeah, I've always hated vegetables myself. But I realized that I don't hate them as much as I thought I did. It's just that the ones I hate, I REALLLLLLY hate.

LOVE: broccoli, cabbage, corn (yeah, I know it doesn't count), spinach if it's hidden in something, collard greens, callaloo, any kind of lettuce, sauteed onions, cucumbers

CAN TOLERATE: steamed carrots (still slightly crispy on the inside), peas, asparagus, artichokes, cauliflower

HATE: green beans/string beans, turnip greens, mustard greens, kale greens, zucchini, squash, anything I've never heard of or tasted before

Looking at that list, I think I may like more vegies than I thought. I also love onions and corn on the cob. I can tolerate green/string beans, collard greens, & lettuce if it's on a burger or I got the right sald dressing. Everything else is pretty much NASTY!

Awwwww thanks, T-Block! You always know what to say to make a lady feel good. I declare as soon as you turn my age, I'm gonna snatch you up for myself! :)

Why wait? Besides, aren't you 25? That would make you younger than me. ;)
