Yup. Most definitely.

That's the first thing I noticed. Maybe they wanted to keep it real.

I watched "Forks Over Knives" on Netflix yesterday & now I'm considering a whole foods plant-based diet (which is nothing but the Daniel Fast Diet).  I'm 34 and I have been given about 6 pills to take for hypertension, cholesterol & kidneys.  I have about 40 lbs I want to lose, but moreso, I want to be totally healthy again.  I'm gonna start today & try to go without meat as long as I can.  Just to see how this works out.  To see how creative I can be.  I'm not making any promises yet, but I'm gonna give it a try.  Pray for me.

Can you help me understand why cutting out meat would be a healthy choice?  Just curious.

You ain't curious, RJ. You're setting him up to do your little pro-meat thingy. LOL Didn't you get MM04 on that one a few years ago? SMH! Leave that man alone. If he doesn't wanna eat meat, he doesn't have to, doggonit. I don't see you harassing Daniel! Well... the memory of Daniel... lol. :D :D :D

Anyway, congrats for joining the club, Kingrhollo. I'll be praying for you. And listen to RJ. Whatever he says is probably right (only in this thread, though).

The simple answer is , I don't REALLY know.  I know that what I have been doing hasn't been working.  I know that I am borderline addicted to bad foods and the "fast" would help me spiritually & physically.  I am just at peace at giving this a try.  That's why I stated that I'm trying this out.  At most I have thought about adding grilled/baked fish, seafood & poultry.  But I don't see how trying this would hurt.  I have seen the Daniel Fast do wonders for people, also.  What I haven't seen is someone show me how meat is necessary.

He ain't slick. :D

----------------------------------------

On the subject of meat, I'm neither pro or anti meat, but I will say this, I don't see myself EVER living without it. :D I love bacon, turkey wings and cheeseburgers too much.

BUT... I will say that the foods we eat today are just jam-packed with steroids, preservatives, additives and other junk - and the animals the meat comes from are loaded up with all kinds of stuff and in many cases, not fed healthy diets. So, if you're not eating organic meat (which we know is extremely expensive), you really can't convince me that regular store-bought meat is healthy. We just can't seem to avoid all this unhealthy stuff they do to our foods. :(

There have been a lot of farmer's markets popping up around here lately.  So wifey & I are trying to frequent those places more to do our grocery shopping.  And the prices are less expensive since the middle man is cut out of the loop.

My doctor is from the middle east, and he's very pro-veggie.  He allows some meats, but he absolutely forbids frying them, lol.  I've become more open to trying all kinds of veggies, and I really am pretty cool with it.  I eat tuna now and then and maybe some chicken here and there (Saturday, my tutoring student's mom bought lemon pepper wings from Wing Stop, my absolute fav, so I indulged... yeah, they're fried, lol), but overall, I'm pretty happy without meat.   Oh yeah, and there's a piece of canadian bacon on the breakfast muffin I eat most mornings.

So weigh in was Saturday and so far I've lost 21.6 lbs!  People are really starting to notice (not me yet, though).  I walked into my friend's house for the tutoring session and she noticed instantly.   Yeah, that was pretty cool.

I'm about to go and check one out after work, today!

Farmers Markets are awesome. We have some really good ones in Atlanta. Problem is, though, that in big cities, there are still LOTS of middle men, so the prices aren't as low as they would be in a different area. But I like knowing that my food is (mostly) preservative-free and fresh and clean and not loaded with cancer-causing stuff and premature puberty causing stuff (not that I have to worry about that, but if it causes premature puberty, there's no telling what else it will cause).

VANESSA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 21.6 lbs???? Whoa, girl that's awesome!!! Keep up the good work!!!

Jonathan, how was your doctor's visit? It's passed, hasn't it?

LOL, just realized I already gave my weigh in update in the CS status on Saturday.  The whole weekend is a blur.

As for a spiritual update, I called someone who I consider a veteran in ministry and asked her some questions about how she started out, etc, etc, because I am having some frustrations.  She really gave me some sound and wise advice, so my focus is shifting a bit.  Sometimes you get so amped about God using you, that it becomes your focus... that makes you a target for frustration because if you're not able to go forth or develop like you anticipated, it gets difficult to separate your relationship with God from the things you can do or want to do in ministry.   Anyway, she gave me some good instruction and I appreciate that.  She's not one I talk to a whole lot, so I wasn't sure I was doing the right thing in calling her, but it proved to be a very good move.

It hasn't. Will make an appointment this week, I believe.  Had to get that insipid paper out of the way, first.

I submit it tonight!!!

My reputation preceeds me.  I have to get more inventive with my set ups.  :D :D :D

Seriously though, I've never quite understood the benefits of abandoning meat, so if someone comes up with a valid reason to stop eating meat I'd love to hear it.

If you're going to cut out meat you'll have to find a way to supplement protein.  Your muscles, hair, and nails are made up of protein and meat is the main source of protein in our diet.  It's why bodybuilders eat 1g of Protein per pound of bodyweight.  It's instrumental in building muscle and also contains iron, zinc, and a few vitamins we need as well.

It isn't just meats though, it's what KIND of meat.

If you're eating cheeseburgers, which are high in fat content, then you absolutely will gain weight.  I bought a George Foreman grill and I grill chicken breast and lean steaks all the time.  You get the nutrient & protien benefits without the high fat content.

I wouldn't make a suggestion as to whether or not you do this, but I would suggest you do a little research to make sure you aren't depriving yourself for no reason.   :D
