Give it Away
« on: November 16, 2009, 05:57:10 PM »
Recently, I looked around my "studio" and took account of all I had accumulated over the last couple of years. I was embarrassed by how much stuff I had: 3 laptops, 4 bass guitars, 3 amps and a whole stack of DAW software. I know some are saying, "what's the big deal?" For me, I knew most of what I had was collecting dust, with no hope of being used. Even more so, I had gotten most of it becuase what others said "I needed". I wish I could go back in time.

Anyway, I started giving it all away. I would wait to hear of someone in need, then just give what they needed. The surprise on their faces. Some were skeptical, but believed after getting the items delivered. After it is all said and done, I am left with 1 laptop with all my favorite software, 1 four string and 1 five string bass, a decent amp, and a Tascam recorder: plenty to practice, record and anything else I can think of.

Because of this, I have actually gotten more practice in and improved quite a bit. Why? Becuase I spend much less time thinking about what to use, and just use what I got.
This approach may not work for everyone, but it sure brought me to a good place.

On a different note, has anyone seen the DVD, "The legendary bass of Chuck Rainey"? It is a must have.

It is better to give, than to receive. Great testimony.
