Why is it that some people like to show off on the boards. I mean if you're good, you're good and I have no problem with that, but why be a show off?

I ask this because I just joined a few old friends in their group and this one board player just seems to be someone who wants to be seen and heard more than anything (plays louder then he should). Dude is good not a beast, but good. Now I have only been serious on my boards for about the last 2 years and feel no imtimidation as I have learnt a lot here and practicing, but am more of a humble laid back person. I thank God everyday for blessing me with the gift of music and work hard everyday to get better.

So why do some people just have to be show offs?
Yeap, attention.....I allow for the glory of the lord to shine on me. Not, the other way around...

On some real, I think the whole show off thing is kinda whack and an unfair judgement.  Sometimes its just the way cats play and look wit the stank musician face that makes them SEEM like their showing off.  Only people ive ever really seen accuse someone of showing off is a person who is hating on someones skill level.  I know people talk about the annoiting and flowing but a lot of times where im from people get mad in a shed like "oh he just showin off, he aint that sweet"...ITS A SHED...duh...

And with the whole Kim Burell thing...she really isnt that arrogant.  She just knows what she wants and expects the best from ANYBODY whos working with her.  I remember she did a concert near m hometown on a friday night and rehearsed the bgv's till like 4 A.M. the night before.  She also went over to the md for the night and started changing stuff on the spot with no problem....its all a matter of perspective

Thats pretty much it, not to say that there arent true show offs, but they dont get much respect around here, and they usually dont get too far. People arent looking for show offs, but for humble servants. I think we should judge people by their character, rather than how fancy they play

my 10 cents

Indeed, show-offs have a stinky attitude.
1 mistake we shouldn't make though is judge a person based on their response to the music they are playing or singing, unless if it's pretty clear that they are showing off.

I am a nervous person & sometimes I shake whilst playing when the music is not on, but once it's playtime, I seem to move with the song, but I don't stick my tongue out to the girls in the front row, play out louder than everyone, wink at people or do anything I'm aware of that it's an element of show-off.

I think show-offs know themselves best & that easily manifests itself in quite a short space of time.

I agree with everyone- show-off have a low self-esteem & that is revealed more nakedly when someone better comes & they feel like sinking their head in the sand Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
