Tips to becoming a good musician
« on: September 25, 2003, 01:02:11 PM »
I will start to post some tips (with your help) on becoming a good musician.

You have to develop "The Look".   What is the "The Look"??  Karen taught me about "The Look".  "The Look" is basically a confident look at the keys.  If you don't look the role, you will never be it.  Remember,  to "speak those things that aren't, as though they were".

I like algeres's response. Often time we say as musicians, "I want to be off the chain", and never do we make our request known before God so that He can establish them.

So the first and foremost thing you must do to be a good musician is to labor before the Lord...that is, PRAY!!!

Now After you PRAY try doing the next unheard of thing....PATIENTLY PRACTICE!!

My biggest fear is asking questions....for fear of looking stupid (like I did when you guys were here in Memphis).  I have a sincere fear of playing in front of others unless it's in a small setting where no one else can play but me so whatever I play is good because it's all you're gonna get!  HAHAHA!  But as soon as I get around other good musicians, I do not want to play.  You guys are helping to build my confidence...but my tip would be DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS, NO MATTER HOW STUPID THEY SEEM TO YOU (I'm preaching to the choir now...from my lips to the mirror and then to whoever may need to hear this)!

HD,
I feel ya on that one.  It is terrifying playing or asking questions.  The key thing is to be able to find people like Marvin, Hman, and Lis (lisa??? :D) that are willing to help out.

THIS IS A GREAT TOPIC...MARVIN, LISA, NATEDEMASTRO, B3WANNABE, MYSELF ARE WILLING TO HELP...I CAN'T SPEAK FOR THEM BUT I KNOW FOLKS JUST LOOKIN FOR THE "CHORD FLAVA OF THE MONTH", AND SOME ARE LOOKING TO LEARN..IT'S LIKE THE CHURCH, LET THEM GROW TOGETHER,..EACH HAS THEIR OWN PART TO PLAY, NOT FOR US TO JUDGE, EVEN IF WE DO ANYWAY   I DO IT BECAUSE I LOVE IT, AND GOD WANT'S ME TO DO IT, AS WITH ANYBODY ELSE WHO'S WILLING TO TAKE THE TIME TO DO SO. THE ONLY DUMB QUESTION IS THE QUESTION YOU DIDN'T ASK!

Chord flavor of the month...Hey, I practice TOOO much.  I need to get off here right now and do some homework.  But, Practicing, and praying are the 2 keys for me.  I take my notebook and tape recorder to every church service I go to.  And I ask questions to whomever I need to.  Im just all about getting better, so that I can continue working for the Lord.  Because my gift is playing.  I took no lessons, so I know the Lord wants me to play.  And the Bible says play SKILLFULLY and with a Loud Noise.  Not just with a Loud Noise...LOL...Be encouraged yall
