His cymbals sounds so much better than his Zildjians. They have a brilliant high fidelity sound, as opposed to his former clangier set up...

I caught the Jay-z show last nite in Nashville. I enjoyed Tony playing the song in this thread and the entire concert. Watching drummers bring the rap music to life is a joy (the sounds and patterns generated between SPDs, snares, cymbals, snares, toms and kick). From the moment that Jay-z took the stage, I did not sit down. Great show. And as always, it's a joy to see these drummers live.

Dude, I wanted to go to that show last night so bad, but I was not able to. Hopefully he'll book another date at the Sommet Center for the 2010 leg. As for hip-hop patterns, it's pretty straightforward. For the live presentation of that genre, they've been doing the live band thing for years now with LL Cool J being the first, but Jay-Z has seriously stepped the game up.

What's the name of the song that Tony is playing in this thread? Public Service Announcement (a.k.a. "My Name Is Hov") from The Black Album.

It's difficult to ascertain which model he's playing with... I am not sure if he has a facebook.com account. If he does, I would shoot him a message, asking him about it. Let us know what you find out!

I'm not sure if that diagram is what he's actually playing in the video, as the endorsers usually play with a myriad of cymbals from location to location.
It's a good start, though... Yeahman...

...agreed. Those hihats are killin' but the camera mic' is also stellar. They could be 13" Groove hats but they definetly don't look like the Evo's. ...jkay, what in the world? That Ride in looks alone is friggin' awesome! Gotta hear though..
