Hey, it's me again---need help!

I find myself just playing "the WORDS" of the song--instead of playing rhythm or the beats----do you understand what I'm saying---I'm playing word for word in a song--song from the hymn book and even song from ear.  Can anyone give me some suggestions as to what I can do?

Try playing every other word. Then decrease to every 2 words and so on and so forth until u can find a balance as to what words of the song need a chord.

Okay "T", I tried that---what do I do to add something--you know---that some groove to my playing?

Practice! Start playing along with recordings and instead of listening only to the singers, listen to the instrumentalist and mimic what they do. It probably wont come fast or easy though
