Kicked Out
« on: October 30, 2009, 10:24:32 PM »
Hello everyone, just wanna say that I enjoy reading the forum since the other people who play the guitar I are always busy. I am writing this more of Q and A, less than a rant.

I have been playing the guitar since October 14, 2008, which happens to be my mother. There a reason why I started that day but that's for another time. Anyway, I go to a small church and there was little music being played. It just my friend Chad, who was a blah drummer when he started, and an organist who played so slow people literally fell asleep. After teaching myself 10 chord, I finally got the courage to play in church. So after after two months of playing in church, in March I formed a band in church with another friend who plays the keys and Chad. We practice every Friday and played every Saturday. When we finally started to get better, the pastor intervened with the band. On one hand he says that we are sounding better but he doesn't believe we are not committed enough so he was evaluated us. Fair enough right, he proposed that he was going to bring in musicians to play for church. Though we were now intermediate players, he wanted the small church bigger. At the same time, my who plays the keys, Gab, his godmother start playing the Djembe. The pastor put her in charge after I had do everything just for us to play in church and the pastor disrespected me by stripping me. I guess he has the power to do that. Gab's godmother placed many rules that were unnecessary but we had to followed them or kicked out of the band. I told my parents what happened and said I should just leave since I wasn't happy anymore. But that just it, I've never quit anything. My mother's choir had to sing just this month in Pennsylvania. I told Gab's godmother that I had to leave. She said that if we missed any more practice we were gone. I only missed three practice either because I was sick or was out of town. She didn't understand and know I was kicked my own band. I was thinking about quitting but that's not my nature. Though I can't play every week, my mom said I could join her choir if I learn the songs. That's good news since is the choir is famous in the NYC metro area(because they keep on winning competitions such as the Mcdonald's Gospelfest and Black Caucus). Now here's the hard part, should I leave my church and join the choir(and my sisters group who also won one year the Gospelfest) or stay and try to work things out

God Bless

Not the end of the world.

In fact, it is the beginning!

Now, you have to get extra serious about practice.

Learn everything. Maybe get a teacher. How about having someone get you some lessons as a Christmas gift!

Practice, until it is obvious to everyone that

Thanks for the advice

Around July of the year, I got a summer job. I reasoned I needed a teacher so I went to Sam Ash got a referral to a teacher and have been playing better since July. Since I have taken piano lessons I knew my notes, how to read them, but I didn't know how to find the notes of fretboard. I couldn't play scales or barre chords. I knew about 20 chords when I started with the teacher. Now I know at least 60 chords, some scales, and can play by ear. Though there is a lot to work before I go to college, I believe I would make it. That thanks goes to God.
