My left hand and rebound exercises.
« on: November 09, 2009, 07:02:13 PM »

This is just a little something i wanted to share with you all. Its an exercise phrased in 16ths and 32nd. It can build up your rebound, accent, singles, doubles, and also flams. The bold stickings are grace notes and capatilized are accents. Here it gooooes:

lRrrrL llllR rrLll....

Thats the basic uncomplete pattern. Now after that on 4 you can start single or double stroking in 32nds leading with the left hand until the downbeat then start all over again and repeat this exercise for 20 measures or to make it more difficult, for 5 minutes. Stop when you feel tension as you should know.

You can even switch it up and instead of starting the 32nd rolls on 4 move it back to the "and" of 3. Play this exercise in different dynamic ranges. When you play it softly(p) use just ur fingers and no wrist but you can either make ur accents in mp, mf, f, or even make them as loud as you can while just using ur fingers for the unaccented stickings. Then play them loud and use ur wrists with them. Use your imagination. This exercise is a lot of fun for me and it makes you a little smoother too when you get it down to faster tempos. Enjoy fam!

I set a space above every grace note for the flam so you get a better grasp of the count better. 4/4, 16ths. Hope this is better.

 1e& a 2e& a 3 e&a 4(here are the 32nds)
lRrrrL llllR rrLll lrlrlrlr

or

 1e& a 2e& a 3 e&a 4(doubles)
lRrrrL llllR rrLll llrrllrr

or you can the 32nd single strokes or double strokes on the "and" and of 3. The space after "and" and "a" of 3 isnt a grace note like the above ones, they're a 32nd right hand sticking.
 1e& a 2e& a 3 e& a  4
lRrrrL llllR rrLlrlr lrlrlrlr

...yeah well, your explanation is totally throwing me off; 1e& - "ah"!?

...since when do we split up 16th notes like this?  Unless its the "ah" of 2.   Huh  idk man.

Nah fam. I think some of you are trying to hard to grasp it. No pun or anything. I stated that i set spaces to let u know the grace notes of the flams. Its still straight 16ths. And i didnt know they werent exactly on top of the stickings. So every right or left hand sticking before the accent is a grace note(besides the downbeat of the second measure of the pattern). So lets see if this is better:

lRrrrL llllR rrLll lrlrlrlr / LrrrL llllR rrLll lrlrlrlr
                or llrrllrr

I tried to get the count right above the stickings but i couldnt so ill post that seperately. The bold is the accent so you know theres a flam. Here it is without the spaces.

1e&a 2e&a 3e&a 4(32nd single/double rolls) /  1e&a 2e&a 3e&a 4(32nd single/double rolls)

Or like i said earlier you can start the rolls on the & of 3.
