Ideas for secondary snare & Roland SPD-S
« on: November 02, 2009, 12:49:39 PM »

I just purchased a Roland spd-s which I'm incorporating into my set along with a Pearl 12x9 snare.I'm looking forward to playing both. I'm interested in ideas on how to incorporate these into my playing (patterns, links, etc.) Thanks for your suggestions.

most people use them on a per song basis. like you will use the SPDS on a song that only needs a certain sample during the song. you wont do a chop then hit the spds in the middle of it.

side snare is kinda the same thing although Eric "Booty" Greene def did it with NERD

You have 2 trigger inputs for the SPD-S often used for snare and kick triggers... 808 kicks etc... 80s snare sounds. Use the pads to samples, loops, percussion sounds etc.

The 12x9 pearl can be a main snare with the right tuning. It has a descent range. But is definitley a great secondary.

I have incorporated the snare.  I'm getting comfortable at home with the SPD before i take it to church.  But it's already a joy to play with Grin.  Been listening to music where I have seen drummers using the SPD (Mary J. Blige's Rex Hardy, Jr, Eric Booty Greene, Spanky).
