I love my DRs but I'll prolly be goin back to the D'Addarios.  I guess I need to change my strings a lil more.  I change my strings once a year...lol.

I only change my strings about 3 to 4 times a year.  So you are good plus I dont play like I use too!

Elixir - Medium 045 - 105.

I play/practice almost everyday.  I've had these strings on for about a year and they still sound good.  I'm getting a little peeling on my E string (thin coating), so i guess it's probably time to change them.  I've tried DR High Beams and Fat Beams.  Right now i've settled on Elixir.

Sorry for hijacking the thread. But I figured with everyone posting their strings this would be the best place for a suggestion.


I'm looking for a new set of strings. Currently using GHS Boomers. I'm hoping someone could provide me with a suggestion.

I have a Ib Rouge 5 string bass. I tune B-flat, E-flat, A-flat, D-flat, G-flat.

I plan on incorporating more slap into my playing style. But I am mostly trying to emulate the quartet sound.

I don't use a pick.

Also I tend to only change my strings Once a year.

I only play my bass for about 5 - 10 hours a week.

I would like to try a flat wound string.


Any suggestions?

I use D'Addario Pro Steels for my SX bass that I slap with. They sound real good and last pretty long. Not to expensive as well. Thanks for not using a pick .

I use D'Addarios rounds on my Schecter, D'Addario halfrounds on my Fender Jazz V, and Fender nylon tapewounds on my Fender fretless Jazz

D'Addario strings are reasonably priced and last a pretty long time.

I've played them all and like a lot of them, but R. Cocco is the string for me. A bit expensive, but well worth it in my opinion.

Depends largely on the bass too. 

Running DR Steel Lo-Riders on the Lakland JO5 but getting ready to put some Nickel Lo-Riders on it.  Been digging the Sadowsky strings too.  Both are hex and a little stiffer feeling.  I found the Hi Beams and Sunbeams to be a little less stiff to me.

ken smith on my smith basses (taper core 5 string medium light). I also like DR Low-Riders. they aren't as twangy as the hi beams and they are softer on the fingers than the Smith strings.

I just put a set of ken smith Tapercore ML on the brice. I think these will replace the Dean markley's as my fall back strings. They definitely make up where the sr2000s were lacking in beef.

I still want to try the R. Cocco Steels with the reduced or exposed core but can't find them for sale in the states I would probably have to order them straight from his site.

I just put a set of ken smith Tapercore ML on the brice. I think these will replace the Dean markley's as my fall back strings. They definitely make up where the sr2000s were lacking in beef.

I was torn between a set of Smith taper cores and MTD strings for my modded douglas.  I also went with the Smiths and like the tone so far.  I haven't gotten to hear them in the mix yet but the overall tone thus far has been nice (still breaking in).

I still prefer DR Black Beauties for my MTD tho. The highs on that bass seem to be naturally through the roof (swamp ash body, maple neck, wenge fb) so any strings I use with it have to tame the high end without losing that signature MTD sound.  So far I've liked how the DR's have lasted and they also balance out the basses tone very well.

Thanks Bullitt.  Your post helped me decide what to do with my lunch break today.  I've wanted to try the Black Beauties for a while.  My MTD sounds so much smoother than with the Lo Riders (which sounded alright once they mellowed a little).  Gonna save those to try on a Fender.

I have some D'Addarios on my Tobias that has lasted me for months now.  I have sadowskys on my MM, but they don't last that long.

Is anybody currently using nickel-plated "Dunlop" strings on their
fender jazz or may have used them in the past? Just trying to get some
feedback,pro/con, like them because..dislike them ?? Thanks !
