Wow, I was thinking about sharing some encouragement with the family about this very topic. As the previous two posters said, Bass Chopz Accelerator has some great exercises; slowing down and using a metronome also works wonders. Between these two methods, I finally understood something that is vital to "monster playing": if you don't put in the time training your body to respond without thinking, you will never be very good.
God designed us in such a way that if we perform the same task over and over, we develop what is known as muscle memory, which allows us to do things without much conscious thought. This principle works in every aspect of our lives, from brushing our teeth to driving a car. In fact, muscle memory is why it is so hard to break bad habits, because you have to retrain yourself.
As far as improving your fretboard accuracy the best thing you can do is practice the basics real slow, focusing on playing each note cleanly and in time. Once you can do this, increase the speed slightly, then keep practicing until you can play each note cleanly and in time. Do this until you reach your target speed.
Most instructional books teach this proven method. So get a time keeper, such as a metronome or drum machine and a drill book that illustrate scales, chords and arpeggios, then go to the woodshed until you can play all the scales, chords and arpeggios cleanly and in time. The benefit is you will develop the ability to play the foundation without having to think about it!
