Anybody own or played an XK3C
« on: November 09, 2009, 03:49:04 PM »

Not the Xk3 nor Xk1 I mean the latest xk3c. I have heard a couple clips on youtube but none gospel. I would like to know how it sounds gospel wise before I chug out 2500 for it.

If you played the Nord C2 or C1 how does it stack up to that as well?

http://forums.musicplayer.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1942687

there's a thread from another forum with some good info on comparing the two.

I have played both the C2 and xk-3c at sam ash. I personally prefer the Nord the double manuals with the option for pedal bass is nice. The digital drawbars will take some getting used to (I had an electro), however it is indeed different than having actual drawbars. There's ups and downs between the two. I guess it greatly depends on your preferences and what you intend on using it for.

I wish these clones were half the price they are, it's crazy that you can buy a CV, a100 series or an actual Hammond C2 and a leslie for the price of a clone.

Yeah you can buy a A100 or C2 w/ leslie for about $3000 if you hunt them down. But my guess at why the hammond clones (XK's) are so expensive is because of they're portability. You can unhook it and tote it under your arms. Versus a stationary A100 or C2 taking two men, straps, and wheels to be moved

there's a clip on u-tube;about 10 minutes long from a cat named "organissimo" entitled comparing the XK to a B3 thru a 122.He says there's a few edits to make an XK3 indistingushible from a real B.

The presets on an XK 3 sound pretty good;but I wasn't too impressed just pulling drawbars.I think the xk 3c just has a split for C/V between the manuals.Recently I played a xk 1,and it  sounds good.I would like to play it side by side with a Nord.

btw;someone told me the new NORDs 2 manuals were only available from american music;haven't seen a new one at Ash or GC,anybody know?

I used to own an XK3 (before they came out with the 3c version) which is virtually the same thing tonewise. I have loads of videos on YouTube of me playing my XK3. I was playing through a Leslie 142 which was driven by a Speakeasy Vintage Tube Preamp. Check out any of my videos from about the beginning of 2007 to May of 2008.

Thanks! I'd like to think I've improved a little since my XK3 videos.  Wink

I have the Roland VR-760, which is basically a VK8 with 76 keys and more sounds. I think the Organ Section is good for practice, but I dont know about in church setting. The leslie Sim is kinda weak with the the higher frequencies. So unless there is some kinda software update, I  wouldnt suggest that it be used church unless you have a real leslie.
