A good reason to learn about chords!!

Why Should A Bassist Know What Notes Are In Chords Anyway?

A nice thing about bass is that it adds body to a piece of music. If I play an “A” chord and the bassist plays an “A” note the result is a very powerful thing.  But a bass player has the power to make a piece of music sound more interesting by periodically hitting notes that are relatives of the  the chord!  Not like aunt or an uncle..(ha ha)…
One day have your keyboard or guitarist hit a plain old “C” chord!
Then one after the other hit each note in the “C” major scale.  Hold each note for 4 beats so you can hear how it affects the chord.  Each bass note played against the “C” chord creates a new chord.
Now go even further!...Hit every note on your low “E” string against the same “C” chord ..Not just the notes in the scale but every note!...some will sound really bad…some will sound weird but ok…and others will inspire you!
So experiment with different notes from the obvious and spice up your sound!
