Patriots vs Colts
« on: November 15, 2009, 10:51:46 PM »
First of all, what a game!

Now, the big question:  Do you agree with Bill Belichek's decision to go for it on 4th and 2 at the end of the game?

I actually do.  I'll share why after others reply.

I think that BElicheck showed that he doesn't trust his defense by making that call. Having said that though, it almost worked out for him.  :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

Here's how I see it:

1. If the pass is complete for a first down- game over.  Patriots win.

2. If the Patriots don't get the first down, there's a greater likelihood that the Colts score quickly and leave time for Brady to work some magic. (It nearly worked out that way when Addai broke that run to the one yard line.)

3. If they punt, there was plenty of time for Manning to get down the field and score, leaving little to no time on the clock.  Yeah, there's the whole "not trusting the defense" thing, but let's face it, what coach does trust their defense against Manning in that situation?

Bill Belichick showed he doesn't trust his defense to stop Payton Manning with two minutes left.

Payton put teh fear o' God in 'em.

While his final call will be debated ad nauseam this week, I think the fact that he:

1. ran a play BEFORE the two-minute warning is quite silly.

2. ran a short yardage play vs a medium yardage play is also quite silly.

The fact that his defense allowed Manning and the Colts to get back into the game gives Belichick plenty of reason NOT to trust them (which leads me back to why are you running a play before the two minute warning).
Despite our communication technology, no invention is as effective as the sound of the human voice.

I don't fully remember, but I think the clock was stopped right before the 2 minute warning.  One of the two teams called a timeout.
