About the will of God...
« on: November 20, 2009, 08:58:34 AM »

In a recent post about being church musicians, there was an "off-topic" discussion about being in the will of God (or going against it).

The apostle Paul warned us about people who possibly lead us astray, when it comes to what Holiness and the life of a believer. That's why in his 2nd letter to Timothy (vs 15), he says that we should study, so that we can discern and break down the Word accurately.

For anyone on this board who is really concerned with getting into Heaven please consider this scripture:

"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven." - Matthew 7:21

This is Jesus talking. A Christian is a Christian because of CHRIST. We are believers because we follow the teachings of CHRIST.

If we're trying to get to Heaven, we must live by this scripture. If you're only interested in what this temporary earthly existence holds, then that's between you and the God you may or may not get in to see.

...agreed.  He (Jesus) also denied His own Will to fulfill the Father's which was to die on the cross for our sins.

I wonder what would have happened if Jesus had decided to blaze his own trail and do things his way?

Funny.  Muslim extremist use that same scripture to justify unleashing suicide bomb missions on select victims.

That being said, the bible is the biggest closet known to man.  No matter what pants you're wearing (point of view) you can always find a shirt (scripture) to match.

And yes, I still disagree. Smiley

I'm not trying to justify any other religion.

I also didn't think this would change your mind, Sheen. It was really to those who may read what you wrote and be persuaded against what they know is right.

Jacob wrestled with God, not to change his will, but to get a blessing... specifically protection for when he was about to meet his brother.  His wrestling actually confirmed God's earlier prophecy to Sarah about her twins' later relationship. So it actually WAS God's will that Jacob learn God in a new way... in order for him to trust God the way God had intended. And it worked.

Abraham did what we would call "intercession." He was trying to save his family. Abraham knew that there were not 50 righteous people in Sodom. But because of the relationship He had with God, he came to understand that God shows mercy to those who follow him. I believe it would be considered God's will for us to pray for the protection of and mercy of others.

I'm not trying to change your mind. But others on here need to see the fallacy in the argument you presented, and then look ONLY to God's word about the consequences or blessings that come from being (or not being) in His will. That doesn't come from "I don't think..." That comes from "What the Bible says in plain black and white (and in this case, red)".
