Are You Investing in What Really Matters?
« on: December 08, 2009, 11:03:03 AM »
Are you investing your time, money, resources into things that actually matter in life?

Sometimes (actually all the time) I think, if I would have done this when I was younger, I'd be so much farther along.  But now I realize (starting to realize) there's nothing we can do about the pass, only plan for the future.

This is one of the main goals of my life - focus on the things that matter. People's opinions, perishable gains - these are among the many that just simply don't matter. My life became so much more liberated when I realized this.

I heard Bishop Jakes ask the other day, were we really filled with the Holy Ghost so we could spend all of our time and power praying for petty, carnal things like bills and money? Our focus should be doing BIG things in the kingdom - that's what matters. Focusing on the perishable and carnal things of this earth is only a side-effect of forgetting God and who He truly is.

"Israel has forgotten his maker and built palaces." -- Hosea 8:14

Yep. Everything I do is for my family, and that matters most to me.

I agree whole heartedly.

While you're getting your spiritual life in focus, don't forget your natural life (family). There has to be a balance. Some people are so spiritual, that they aren't any good for the world....and their families suffer. It's a shame that this also happens amongst Christians, and 4hisglory's post about the dude saying God told him to divorce is wife is the outcome of such thinking.

We had a lady in a church we attended before say her husband "wasn't a real man". I don't know the details of their relationship, but he seemed like a good man. The guy was there for every service; I never heard him talk bad to his wife or even give any signs of that behavior; and he seemed to have a meek personality. From what I'm told it had something to do with his Walmart job....but anyway. That's why I constantly pray for sanity, because stuff like that is craziness.

Are you investing your time, money, resources into things that actually matter in life?

Sometimes (actually all the time) I think, if I would have done this when I was younger, I'd be so much farther along.  But now I realize (starting to realize) there's nothing we can do about the pass, only plan for the future.

To me I really believe that we on a regular really invest too much time, energy and money on things that are irrelevant. To pin point back to TJ's point about in the kingdom looking at the bigger picture, I truly believe that our communities would be totally on fire for God if we spent more time and energy focusing on the big picture of our faith such as winning souls for Christ, discipling those who come into our assembly and reaching out to the community. We should not be in church arguing about who gonna do scripture, if the choir gonna wear black or red or whether the choir should march in or come from the side. At the end of the day (this is almost a 360 turn from what I've traditionally believed) if the leader says do something and it is not associated with the big picture and will not stop us from saving souls and reaching out into the community just do it!

Second I look at this also from the issue of healthcare and jobs and other important initiatives in our country. While people in our communities need various help with issues such as healthcare, jobs, etc., you got government officials arguing about petty issues in the name of their political party, their own personal agendas or electability in congress. It is ridiciculous that after months of debate there cannot be a finalization of the healthcare issue. It is ridiculous that it took almost 2 or 3 weeks to decide on extending unemployment. At the end of the day as long as it is helping people until the next stage, why do all of those petty issues matter?...ugghh!

Ok that's enough of the soapbox....lol!
