My problem with this is the teacher is an authority figure. She has no right even showing interest in anybody, other than the fact that they learn.

I guess it's starting to become so prevalent now that they have to try and find a way to condone it.

Many teenage boys and girls can be lead into sexual situations. It's up to the adult to have some restraint.

College is a bit iffy (unless the student is 21 and, even then, it can be iffy).

I think a 4-5 year age gap is fine.

People are usually less protective of their sons than daughters, so something like this is more acceptable when the child is a male.

For High school, it should not be legal until the kid graduates. In college, its just not a good idea to date a teacher, but it shouldnt be illegal, but schools should still be able to have rules against it if they want to. But as long as they are of age of consent it should not be considered non consensual, by using that term people are being considered rapist, when nobody was raped.

The age of consent in Georgia is 16 as specified by Section 16.6.3 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

Also stated in the Criminal Code of Georgia 16.6.3 subsection (c), if a person is "at least 14 but less than 16 years of age and the person convicted of statutory rape is 18 years of age or younger and is no more than four years older than the victim, such person shall be guilty of a misdemeanor."



There may be additional, Teacher/Student laws, though.

That needs to be taken into account as well. If the child is already sexually active--especially if they've had multiple partners--the adult shouldn't be prosecuted. Many children these days are active after 12, I know they were where I grew up. I know at least five 12 year olds with babies.

I agree to a short extent. Adults shouldnt be able to take advantage of kids just because they are not virgins

At second thought, I don't really think the age is the main factor. I think the fact that teachers have authority over students should automatically disqualify them from dating whether it's consensual or not. However, if the student has reached the age of consent, I think they should LEGALLY be allowed to date as long as the student is not in the teacher's class.

Don't get me wrong, though... I think that whole idea is pretty gross, unless we're talking about a teacher that's only like 3-4 years older than the student... but even that is weird IMO.

What if it's possible that the student could be in that teachers class in a following semester?  Does the school keep track of who's dating to make sure this doesn't happen?   

What if the teacher speaks to one of the student's teachers to get him/her a passing/failing grade?  It's a slippery slope.
