say goodbye to your raise
« on: December 10, 2009, 03:56:13 PM »
What I'm hearing is a 3% TAX HIKE for your medicare tax.For those who don't understand, right now you pay 3 +% and your employer matches this as a direct cut off the top of your pay.Not sure if the TAX hike is 3 % TOTAL or 3% for both=6%.

So,instead of a possible 2 or 3 % raise-my bet is you just LOST at LEAST 3 %,if you make 100,000 year(NOT the OVER $250,000 rich crowd). So,worst case, you might have just lost $6000.00 NEXT year!!!!!

anybody feeling "rich or empowered so far"?

might want to call your Senator and tell them """"""STOP spending"""""""""""

Doc, around here, we really try not to post stuff like this without providing a **SOURCE**.

Where'd you "hear" this? And where can we read it for ourselves?

Here's what a google search just showed me:

US Senate Medicare Payroll-Tax Hike Draws Criticism

By Martin Vaughan, Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- Economists on Thursday criticized a Senate proposal to raise Medicare payroll taxes on high earners to help fund a health-care overhaul. But the idea was welcomed by some House Democrats as a viable solution to help foot the bill for the health re-write.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) added the tax, which would generate $54 billion over 10 years, to his sweeping health legislation to help minimize its impact on the deficit.

Under the plan, most taxpayers would continue to pay a 1.45% Medicare hospital-insurance tax, but single people earning more than $200,000 and married couples earning more than $250,000 would be taxed at 1.95%.

And THIS is why we like to have a... Source   ;)

And if you compound that with the 3.00 inflation rate for the year
...and the 10% for tithes
...and the 2% drop in the stock market
...and my boy borrowed $10 bucks the other day.

There is always going to be something to take your money.  Its nothing to worry about.

What you said. And if they're going to take my money, I'd rather it be for something that will benefit me. This could benefit me. Universal Health care could benefit me.

I think Doc listens to too much Fox News and Rush. ;)

And Glen Beck.  :)  Everything can always be looked at in a positive or negative light.

Example:  Positive
I don't mind giving 3 cents of my dollar to make sure us Americans have some form of health care.

Example:  Negative
IIiiiii aiiinnnt giving no 3 cent to help out no one.  I need that 3 cents for myself

How would this benefit those who already have health insurance? Just want your opinion.

What if you lose your job? Just because I don't need it now, doesn't mean I won't need it later. Also, I think there should be an opt-out. We should only be forced to pay the taxes that apply to us. If I don't want medical care, then I shouldn't have to pay; but if I get sick, and I need care, I shouldn't go crying for the government to help me.

This would be a BAAAD idea, mainly because people are short term thinkers.  If they don't need it at the time, they done want to pay it.  If you could opt out of FICA, so many would do it because it would increase there weekly paychecks, but when they get older, they would be cry.

That's why so few people do 401k.  They aren't thinking about the future.

They need to put finance training in school, if it isn't there already. Give kids fake accounts, and teach them about saving and investing.

Maybe they can impose some checks....say a person could do that, if they have a certain amount of money saved. That person would probably know how to manage their money enough through a crisis.

hey guys, sorry about the lack of links, usually from ATL JOURNAL,NPR,or AP articles.
The medicare 1.75 is only proposed,so it could be higher AND be double 1.75x2 if what they are  saying doesn't include the employer matching. As far as ONLY over $250 k earners, the math shows there aren't enough of those.Besides, that would open the door for a legal challenge as an unfair tax.My bet ,is we will all see this on all our checks.

A 2 or 4 cent PER dollar doesn't seem like much UNTIL you look at it as better than a 50% hike,i.e.  1.75/3.00 rate. It's not so much as not wanting to help the poor or disadvantaged -but I do resent more government waste.

This also doesn't include the "cadillac " tax.I' read in the AJC that one "proposal" is to tax the insurance company a 40 % excise tax!!!This is to "ensure" that "X" amount of what the insurance companies take in is spent on "patient care".Right!!!!! Business lesson 101:why is the FED interested in controlling private industry?Basically this is ANOTHER version of "Hillary-tax the "excess profits  of the oil companies" mantra.Where did the oil companies get this "profit"? From your and my wallet.

From what I saw from the Senate live,it looks like the WHOLE plan has NOT been made available to the WHOLE senate yet while thet're supposed to be getting ready for a vote.Kinda strange?

Friday,an independent evaluation show this plan can't work financially. It seems strange that they want to increase a medicare tax in 10' for bennies that don't come in till 14' for a program they want to cut NOW while at the same time INCREASE availability at age 55.All around nonsense, while proposing financial cuts that will affect hospitals, nursing homes, and providers. This will force folks out of business or pass the cost along .

So it's a sweet deal for those calling the shots;increase power, tax, spend(on what you want),and pass the costs on.

The AP article (from Yahoo) shows the unions to be "concerned about teachers, bus drivers and workers paying these costs".How many bus drivers make $250 k a year? So,why are they concerned?

Some of the answers here are pretty calming,we should be faith based people.JESUS gives us the example of correct order with those in leadership. But HE did give us a brain and a VOTE;if we just stand idly and dumbly by while we are sold out by some yahoos-are we being "GOOD STEWARDS"?

Yo B3;I'm shocked you think I listen to Russ(ha ha) yikes!!! Never!!!! But,I do watch Beck once in a while;he just MIGHT be making some sense.I think the fact that they have tried to belittle him with "disinformation tactics" ;i.e. "FOX is NOT a NEWS network " speaks volumes.

My bet? this is gonna cost us like no tomorrow $$$$$$$$
