HearAndPlay.com's Guitar Training Course
« on: December 30, 2009, 01:37:49 AM »
Has anyone checked out this series of instruction? The video clips I've seen appear pretty basic. Can anyone confirm? I'm looking for something more advanced to help supplement my gospel studies. For example, advanced playing techniques and approaches to harmony that are mainly unique to black gospel guitar.

Edit:

Apparently there's a bit more to the series than I initially thought (beginning with video #103). Jarius is a great player and seems to cover some useful material to the advanced player. This might be what I'm looking for.  I'm still interested in any comments or critiques you guys might have about these videos. Thanks in advance!

:) I've only checked out Hear and Play Guitar Gospel 101 with Bobby Griffin a while back.  It's a good video for beginners to intermediates.

90% of the video is explaining the chord progression below, and how to apply it to various congregational/ hymn songs.  Also, he went over the (Gospel) Blues Scale.

Unfortunately, no tabs/ written music is available with the video.  He doesn't teach gospel riffs, like Dubose or Eric Halls play.  I guess that would be Gospel (1001) ;D

So don't buy this video expecting it to teach you to play like an expert.  You will be disappointed :(  Only diligent practice can get you to an expert level.

Overall, (from scale 1 to 10) I give the video a "7" :)

Progression used in the video
1-7-3-6-2-5-1 (I-vii-iii-vi-ii-V-I) progression

Chords used in the video for the progression
I   - Maj, 13, 7
vii - m7b5
iii  - m7, m7b5
vi  - m7, 7b9
ii   - m7, 13, dim7
V  -  7, 9, 11, 7#9
I   -  Maj, 13, 7

Have you been baptized in Jesus' name and received the Holy Ghost?
(Acts 2:37,38 and 19:1-7)
