Hardware Malfuntion
« on: January 25, 2010, 08:11:55 AM »
...okay so yesterday at church when we were closing the service my Pastor wanted us to play a certain song he had in mind.  So we're playing the song and the congregation was singing along.  As the chorus of the song nears I stopped playing cross-stick to begin the set-up fill to the chorus when I notice that my stick took a trip down south all the way to Miami.  The snare drum ended up under my knee and I was like OH NO!  lol  The snare stand broke. lol  The band and singers were laughing with my Pastor wondering what was going on. lol  So I played the rest of the song with my ol' school Dave Weckl left shoulder lean thinking man this is the worst time for this to happen. lol  Time to get that Pearl S1000.

...over to you guys.  ;D

I haven't had any personal issues but once I saw Buggy play at a church in Baltimore and by the time he was done he had broken two cymbal stands, the snare stand, and a floor tom leg.  The kit looked like a tornado had been through the church.  Everything was leaning to the side or laying on the floor.

lol, funny stuff. I think its fun when equipment breaks during the middle of the song and you watch how fast the drummer's mind has to work to see how he can make it work without missing a beat....... This separates the men from the boys!

But the malfunction that nags me the worst is when the hi-hat rod gets disconnected from the pedal and the pedal has absolutely no use. So you have to sit there and play with loose hi hats until you get a break in the service to take everything apart and fix it again.
Praise Him with clashing cymbals!

that doesnt happen even when its travis barker playing! (joking)

on topic: the only thing that happened was that the hihat "locker" unscrewed..
oh and one time I was playing a punk rock gig and when I noticed I only had half stick on my right hand (not proud of those times lol)

I was playing at a church last night with my band on the church's elctronic kit and the snare drum shorted out during the last song! So I had to play a tribal kind of groove on the toms to How Great Is Our God! LOL. It was kind of cool though i guess.

;D not Laughing at you Bro, but it was a funny moment, did you ever think that God likes to be amused some time?  So may angels uscrewed a bolt or somethin?  Don't make life so serious you'll die quicker that way, so take time to put laughter in your life.

There in most venues, clubs, etc they have a drumset already, so all you need is a pair of sticks, a pedal, cymbals and a snare. This is kinda good, but as a consequence those sets are quite worn off. So you don`t know what you`ll be playing on the next time. It could be a nice yamaha or tama set or just a half dead maxtone set with heads fixed with tape and stuff like that. So once i had to use my shoe laces to tie the snare stand to not to let it move away. Lots of stands aren`t adjustable because they`re are simply broken and fixed with the tape, and no drum throne - just a bar stool instead. So imagine a drummer sitting on a bar stool, with the snare lower his knees, hats 2 inches higher, the legs of the kick drum are too short that the drum swings from left to right when you hit the rack tom. So in such situations you should be prepared :)
That happens not that often though and most clubs have bearable drumsets, but sometimes you just get surprised :)
