However i don't know if funk can be taught, its more of a "feel" thing.

Yeah i'll agree with the part in bold but a good starting point would be knowing the scales he's using.I hear at the pentatonic,dorian and dominant in there.

see i think that anything can be learned...some may be more natural because of a better sense of time/rhythm and their exposure to a certain type of music more than someone from a different background...but i believe you can learn anything if work at it.
