Amp Suggestions

I'm looking to buy a new amp.  Anyone have any suggestions?  I'm looking for something bigger and louder than what I have now.  I currently play through a Marshall MG50RCD with a Digitech RP 250 using a Tradition G12 Gold.  I'm looking for something that handles effects well and doesn't distort at higher volumes.  I would like to stay under $350.00.

anywho...if you want something louder you should go with the tube amp...

go to www.musiciansfriend.com and look under tube amps.  See if you can get a tube amp that satisfies your needs.

For praise and worship at my church, my present amp is plenty loud enough.  I also sing and play in a group where we have drums, keys, bass, and two guitars.  The other guitar player plays through Crate with two 12's.  With his amp and all of the other instruments, I have trouble hearing what I'm doing sometimes and I'm usually right in front of my amp. 

It's been several years since I have played through a tube amp.  The last time I played through one I was just starting out and really didn't pay a whole lot of attention to the sound.  Until I go play through one, I have no preference.

I purchacsed a Peavey Windsor Half Stack today.  Not my first choice in amps but I got a really good deal.  The amp has barely been played and I was able to buy the head and the matching cab for $325.  I'm probably going to sell it or trade it in for something smaller though.  It's too much amp for where I play and it doesn't clean up as well as I would like...but hey for what I paid for it I should be able to get back what I paid for it and then some.  I was thinking of sticking with tubes but I need something that has a good clean sound to it.

Have you really tested the dynamic range of the Windsor? How does it clean up with the volume knob? Maybe a volume pedal would help you to easily get that clean sound you want.

I thought these had a good clean? But I may be mixing up my amps...

With the wattage there, though, you should be ably to get quite some volume before you reach breakup. I'd give a good run-through before you write it off.

I would love to see the MOM eyes if I brought that type of rig into the church.  They say i'm too loud with my deville

My bad, the Windsor is a single channel amp. Still, at low gain, I'd imagine it will give you 'some' clean.

for the same amount of money you could have gotten a used Peavey Classic 30 and been much happier.

I was able to do some tweaking tonight at choir rehearsal and I was able to clean it up nice.  I brought it home with me to mess with it some more.  I'm still thinking of giong to my local music store which is a Peavey dealer and exploring my trade in options.  I play for my church choir and a quartet.  After bringing it home this evening, I'm already tired of moving it around.  My group does travel around the state singing about twice a month.  That's something else I have to consider.

I play a Fender Ultimate Chorus (2x12 130W), which is a (shamefully) discontinued solid state, for the clean tones at church.The headroom is great, and Fender's chorus and reverb are complmentary to a lot of the songs. I prefer a tube amp (my silverface Bassman is a monster!) for home, but you actually can crank a solid state much higher without distortion... in case you're not mic'd to the house (which for a long time, I was not... the elders in the first few rows probably should get their hearing checked...)

A used roland jc120 is good choice too if you want clean.
