Ladies and Gentlemen and Bassist, There is a reason why you should be up at 4 in the morning surfing the deep recesses of ebay. GAS is something extremely powerful. More powerful than you could ever believe.

dude, when i was lookin for mine i started noticing SOOO many people buying these and NOT liking them and selling them for a huge discount, some with upgrades (their loss, our gain). Talkbass alone had 5 string MTDs a-plenty and a few 6'ers. GAS is powerful, so powerful that i almost bit the bullet about 5 or 6 times on that model, before the Lord made that cherry and maple one that longed for available. Didnt regret or second-thought that purchase not once, which was a first for me. I was gonna make some mods, but i'll hold off on that for now, just probably an Aguilar pre before the musical i gotta play at the end of March.

If I'm not mistaken, it was purchased that way. They seller had made the mods.

Yeah I'll see how long it lasts in this bass. It made it a couple of months in the brice. I've been running passive for a while now some I'm just getting used not having to reach over to my outboard pre to change eq. Had to throw on the pointer knobs give it a bit more american look.

Hey nice bass...I did see that on Ebay when I was surfing around for a Kingston 5.  I have a question for you.  With the Ken Smith pickups, how close are you getting to that Ken Smith sound?  I noticed when I was bass shopping that the Ken Smith site now sells their electronics.  I was thinking about modding a bass with their electronics.

Actually as crazy as it seems I was never after a authentic smith sound. I just wanted a better high end after the barts. A bunch of the smith sound comes from two places the pickups themselves and the placement. Both pickups on a smith are much closer to the bridge than a standard bass. Now this is where I actually like the distinction. With smith pickups in a standard pickup placment you can get the signiture smith upper-mids and highs while mantaining the more natural sounding acoustic lows of the bass. This means its much easier to eq out the smith sound than it is on a smith. Overall it resulsts in more versitility IMO.

On kent armstrong. Yes kent armstrong has been making smith pickups for a long time. How do you know. Well trade secrets don't stay that too long and the pickups look the same are the same texture and use the same tab wiring system. Kent just like bartolini has his custom line which you have to order from him and a much cheaper line that sell at warmoth and places like that. Ken smith 6 string flat tops are $345

Got the knobs from effectsconnection  for $5 shipped

kent armstrong is who makes the ken smith pickups.  Ken just slaps his name on them.  Call up kent and ask him :-)

With that being said I put them in the stank nasty.

I wholeheartedly agree.  I can get back to a thick, but rich tone or to a very modern hi-fi tone without that "thick" low end.  It's really nice.
