HELP!!!
« on: February 24, 2010, 09:03:49 PM »
I got a problem.
I picked up my trusty practice bass combo amp today and when I plug my bass in it picks up a AM radio station!!!

I feel this would be great if it was picking up the local gospel station but its not :(

Its really different trying to practice and hearing someone's voice talking about how Islam and Socialism and something else.

HELP! Pretty please, its like 10 degrees and my other amp is in my car.

You sure it's not your bass?  I've only heard of this sorta thing happening with basses with active electronics and with cordless mics.  If it is the bass, adding some copper shielding oughta do it.

It's the bass, not the amp. You may need some sheilding in your control cavity.

Do you have tubes in your practice amp?  My Ampeg BA115T picks up a classical station... however it's definitely the amp (tube electronics) picking up some stray fequencies in my case... I'm not sure there's much you can do in this case...

I've never heard of a bass itself picking up radio frequencies...I've never heard of anything other than tubed amps doing this.

I do not believe my little 10W 8" practice amp is a tube.

It is highly possible that it is my bass. It has been mentioned in a few reviews that my bass lacks shielding in the cavity.

So can I just lined my bass with tin foil? ;)

I plan on following this outline.

It provides a step by step of how to do shield my guitar.

One quick question does places like guitar center sell copper foil? Or do I need to order it from a special place?
