Does anyone know any good P&W songs that aren't...
« on: February 10, 2010, 12:34:40 AM »
Does anyone know any good P&W songs that aren't:

By (or anything popular by) Israel Houghton (& New Breed), Fred Hammond (and Radical for Christ), Judith Christie McAllister, Donnie McClurkin, Deitrick Haddon (and Voices of Unity), Tye Tribbett & GA, Steven Hurd, Smokie Norful, Tonex (Ton3x), Martha Munizzi, Mary Alessi, Cece Winans, Bebe Winans, Soweto Gospel Choir, Mississippi Mass Choir, Shana Wilson, Shekinah Glory Ministry, The West Angeles Church of God In Christ Mass Choir & Congregation, Walter Hawkins, Damita Haddon, Hezekiah Walker (and LFC),

and aren't

"Not About Us" - Bishop Noel Jones
"Hallelujah You're Worthy" - by anybody

and that aren't too geared towards rock and pop?

I know I'm asking a lot, but I keep coming back to the same artists and songs when I look for new music, especially P&W music.  In another thread I said I was working on a CD of music to play before service starts.  One other issue I keep coming up with songs that were sung in my old church and a good chunk of the church that I'm at now are from my old church.  I'm trying to keep it fresh.

Thanks for your help.

She'll not like BTC.

Why are you eliminating all the gospel artists out there? I mean, looking at your list, all you have left are

William Murphy

Kurt Carr

Freddie Rodriguez (although he sounds like Israel)

William McDowell

Pastor David Mobley (a friend of mine from Lakeland, Fl) google him

Marva Elaine (Nessalynn's FL)

Bishop Paul Morton

Byron Cage

Kirk Franklin (I mean, he wasn't on your list)

Norman Hutchins

Joe Pace and the Colorado Mass Choir

Rhema Worship & Praise (I think you'll like that one)

Beverly Crawford

Bishop Clarence McClendon

Bishop Carlton Pearson's Azusa Praise Jubilee CD

Bishop Larry Trotter/Vashawn Mitchell

Darwin Jackson & Praise Ministry

Darwin Hobbs

Earnest Pugh

Donald Lawrence

Juanita Bynum

Lamar Campbell

New Direction

LaRue Howard

Marvin Sapp (you'd need a lead vocalist)

Troy Sneed

Rev. Timothy Wright

Youthful Praise

In order to 'keep it fresh', you should try playing cuts that aren't popular on an artist's CD.  :-\

I agree, I am doing that now with some John P. Kee from back in the day. Many people remember Show Up and He'll Welcome Me on the Show Up CD, but he has some more wonderful songs off of that album that people have not heard. I do that a lot, so this would also be my suggestion also, don't just get caught up with the song that has the most airplay, but listen to all of the songs in your cd collection and listen to the words to ensure that someone will be touched by ther song because of the message it provides.

@Sjon:  The CD I'm making isn't for songs that are going to be sung by thr praise team.  The CD will be played throughout the church during our fellowship time before the service starts.  I have songs from a lot of the people you mentioned bust since I only have individal songs and not albums, only heard some of their work, and I was getting sleepy I decided not to list them all.  When it come to Kirk Fanklin I have his CDs, "Hero", "Fight of My Life", "God's Property", "The Nu Nation Project", a slighly messed up "Rebirth of Kirk Franklin" CD, and select songs from the Christmas album.  I didn't think his name would come up for p&w.  What songs would you recommend?

I don't usually play what'ts popular especially because we have a gospel radio station that does that.

Also, I started excludig people because between listening around for myself and old LGM treads I keep finding myself going back to the same artists and getting nowhere cause (as of now) I have all I want from those artists.

BTC is okay.  I have their version of "Hallelujah, You're Worthy" I know there are at least twop other versions of that song floating around so that's why I mentioned that song in the 1st post.  I also have "Praise Him".  My issue with BTC is they seem to do, mostly, covers.  I might as well get the original if it's available. (and it usually is available and better.  If not then I'll get the BTC version.)

KC, if you're asking me to recommend some Kirk Franklin songs just for playing during service, I can do that. But, it'll take me a minute. Kirk's got a LOT of stuff you can play.

BTW, if these songs aren't going to be sung, then why can they only be P&W songs?  ?/?

I was asked to make a P&W CD.  However, I doubt they're going to make a bit deal over a song or two being non-praise & worship.

BTW:  I LOVE "Sound of Heaven", "Show Me Your Face", and especially "Give Him Praises" by William McDowell!  Usually I won't put more than one song from the same artist on a CD for the sake of artist diversity, but the CD is leaning a bit toward the rock-ish side of things with songs like, "I Need You" by Tye Tribbett, "Chasing After You", by Bishop Paul Morton, and "Amazing" by Stephen Hurd.  Personally I don't mind, but being mindful of my audience...they might.  Even though it's just going to be background music I know there are people who actually sit and listen to the music.  Whether they're listening to the CD or just notice songs as they come on I don't want people to go, "Why are they playing all these rock songs?"

They'll either need to get over it or come up with a CD of their own.  ::) :-\

You'll also want to look into Kevin Lemons and Higher Calling...good stuff.  8)

Maybe you can look into Gary Oliver. He hasn't done any new music lately (since 2002, I believe), but his music has always been good. Check out his cd, More Than Enough

Some good songs from him to look up

I Will Trust In You
More Than Enough
Psalm 117
I Love You
Just One Word

There are many others...
