Professional sports ( but espically professional football)  is a meat market.   physical  prowess is at a premium at just about every position.   Hit hard, run fast, jump high.   That is what the industry requires.  Only QB's   are looked at for their  understanding of the game.  And chances are  a mobile  QB with a cannon for an arm will always go higher than a guy  who can really  make the dificult throws in tight windows ( Think JaMarcus Russel)

One would think, BECAUSE of the failed experiment known as JaMarcus Russell, folks would use a different strategy. :-\

Jets release Thomas Jones

This is the first baffling move of the off-season to me. Jones is on the better side of 30, imo.

I think the Redskins, Chargers, Bears or Lions could scoop this dude up. Although, the Pats could pull a fast one, as well.

If you look at Jones' numbers from last season (which were pretty great), the first question you ask is "How in the world could they release a player who just ran for 1400+ yards and 14 TDs?"

Well, he IS going to be 32 years old when the season starts.  LT has shown us just how quickly an older RB can go from 'elite' to 'pedestrian'.

Rookie Shonn Greene emerged at the end of last season and pretty much ran circles around Thomas Jones.  By the end of the season Shonn Greene had won the starting job and Jones was the backup.  As good as Thomas Jones was, by th end of the season Shonn was better.

The Jets simply couldn't pay a 32yr old Running Back starter money to be a backup.

Got all of that. Why not trade him and upgrade at another position......say QB? ;D :P

Kidding, I really mean WR. Can't tell me they don't need help @ that position.

My guess is that there aren't many teams looking for a 32yr old RB with that salary.  They'd likely look for a younger Back through free agency or the draft (though this is a weak class of RBs).  Any WR they get in a deal for Jones would probably be over the hill himself.

C'mon man!  Stop pickin on The Sanchize!!!    :D

Again, 1400+ yds and 14 TDs ain't nothin' to sneeze at @ any age.  :D

I'm thinkin' they should've tried to trade him or restructure his deal (fill it with incentives or whatever) and keep if for no other reason than they have NO idea how Leon W. will do after coming back from his broken leg AND, god forbid, Greene gets injured.

Yea, the numbers are great.

They actually did ask him to take a pay cut and he refused.  He was asking for a RAISE at the end of last year, then he had a great year this year, so he refused the pay cut.

With a pay cut/incentive-heavy deal I would've said keep him.

Yea, with Leon Washington pretty much a question mark and no reasonable backup, we'll be in trouble if he gets injured.  I hope the Jets are looking for an insurance policy as we type.  Preferably a cheap Policy named Tomlinson.   :)

As expected, the Buffalo Bills have declined to off T.O. another contract beyond the 1-yr deal.  So is anyone really surprised?  I would think that's why it was just a 1-yr deal.

This has got to be the most suprising story of the offseason! Maybe not suprising but I tell you there has got to be a few praise breaks going on in Charlotte!

Chargers Cornerback Antonio Cromartie is headed to the Jets

Alright, now all we need is for The Sanchize to come into his own...and some receivers.

I was thinking about this too for personal MADDEN reasons....maybe now i will be able to man up and not have the cpu burn me up and down the field....

But seriously, that turns the jets secondary into a MONSTER.....

Chester Taylor is a Chicago Bear

This hurts Minnesota.  More carries for AP I guess.

Wasn't his production down this season? If that be so, then I don't think that makes much of an improvement to their secondary.....unless Sexy Rexy ::) can do something with him. :-\
