According to Tim Hasselbeck ::), Dennis Dixon would be the best choice during Big Ben's suspension.

I think it would be a good opportunity for Dixon to show what he can do.  He's only started one game against the Ravens and looked quite impressive; I would think he could only get better from here on.  With Batch injured, Leftwich would likely back up Dixon (assuming he wins the job).

I say trade Big Ben for a top 10 pick.  Pick a possession WR in the draft to eventually replace Ward when he retires or is forced out.  Give Dixon all of the support he needs to be successful (including placing more emphasis on the run) and move on.

While Big Ben won games and was able to make a lot of big plays, I still say he's not as good as a lot of the analysts say he is.  He holds the ball wayyyyy too long and is indecisive when blitzed (translation: he doesn't read the blitz well at the line and has to rely on the line to give him enough blocking to help him find the hot receiver).  His sack total is among the highest in the NFL on a consistent basis.  It's not always the fault of the line.  You'll see him double, triple, even quadruple pump the ball before he decides upon a receiver.  Sometimes, he was able to make up for his indecisiveness with his strength.  He can brush off blitzers that other qb's would fall prey to.  Nonetheless, Dixon counters with speed, and can add a double threat to the qb position in Pittsburgh.

That's his strong suit; he's got the size and strength.  Not pretty, but he'll get the job done....usually.  But I think it's premature to trade him away though.

You can NOT knock a guy who has earned TWO Super Bowl rings. If not for his stick throw (and the great catch by Holmes), the Steelers only have one ring.

Give me a guy who takes a sack over a guy who throws INTs (Brett Favre, I'm lookin' at you) EVERY time.

According to Wiki:
Roethlisberger has been one of the most efficient passers in NFL history. He currently ranks 9th all-time in NFL passer rating (91.7), 5th in yards per attempt (8.01), and 8th in completion percentage (63.29%) among quarterbacks with a minimum of 1500 career attempts. He has the 5th highest winning percentage (.698) as a starter in the regular season among quarterbacks with a minimum of 80 starts.

I know you've spent some time playin' the position; I'm jus' sayin', bruh.  :-\

...in his first six seasons.

There's definitely no doubt about his ability.

Ummmm...you do realize that Ben's and Bretts TD to INT ratio is the same right? :)

Did you do the math or is that stat out there somewhere?

Anyway, no I didn't know that...till I did the math.

Still doesn't take away from Big Ben's ability. If anything, it says (as long as he can remain in the NFL) that he's on his way to a HOF career. *kanyeshrug*

I wish there was a way to factor sacks into the whole passing efficiency equation.  There are plenty of qb's who throw the ball away rather than take the sack.  As a result, their completion percentage and passer rating go down.  Taking the sack keeps both stats intact.  That was the knock on Brad Johnson, I believe.  My point is, if there was a way to factor sacks into the equation, Ben wouldn't look quite as good.  That said, I I heed to your points regarding his current stats.  Great stuff for sure.  I can't argue against those numbers.  I've got some numbers of my own: 9-7.  4 fourth quarter defeats last season.  (Something that had never happened to the Steelers before). 3rd place in the AFC North.  Missed playoffs. In the NFL, you're only as good as what you did recently.  According to my stats, he ain't did jack (int.).  Last season, he played 15 games and got sacked 50 times.   :o

Srsly? One season. He had a bad season. C'mon son.

You weren't talkin' any of this when the Steelers won the Super Bowl. ON the field, Big Ben hasn't fallen off. And, he's 28, still room to improve.

I'm through.  I'm just glad Dixon gets a real shot this season.  I think Leftwich holds the ball too long as well.  But, he's not a bad qb to have on the roster.

That makes two of us.  Actually, I believe I know what he's capable of.  I just wonder if he'll actually do it.
