They'll have to. At the end of the day, these NFL players can play in some other football leagues and blow them up in terms of notoriety and popularity.

What do the owners do then?
These owner are some of the most stubborn owners on the planet...IMO. I don't think they will reach an agreement any time soon. Why would they want to change what they currently have going...is what I don't understand. It's my understanding that the owners want more money than their already making. I can understand the rookie wage scale..that is long over due but the money issue is what bugs me. :-\

Lament the fact that they let greed get the best of them.  Of course, I'm speculating.  Until we see the numbers, we won't really know if the owners are as bad off as they claim.  For the most part, I don't think they are.

Well if they end up doing SCAB ball like back in the day, maybe I'll have a chance to come out of retirement and be a 35 year old rookie!

So here's what I'm hearing now on labor......it's not looking good.

The Player's Union has basically declared not being open to 18 game season. The Union also wants the owners to open up their audited books but owners are refusing. I'm also hearing something about $800 million.

Well then..... :-\

I have to side with the Players Union on the notion of an 18-game season.  How do you justify advocating player safety and preserving the careers of these players by adding two more regular season games to bust themselves up?

That makes about as much sense as people wanting neighborhood murders to be solved yet they still support this "no snitching" trash.

Right! I think the logic was reducing the 4 preseason games to 2 and making the other 2 the additional 2 regular season games. Some say that in order for Union to get what they want (as far as the revenue issue) they would have to accept 18 game season. But idk now.

In light of whats happening in wisconsin it doesn't look good for the players union.

The man is attempting to earn back all his money he lost during the recession as quickly as possible.

I doubt making 2 pre-season games into regular season games will make much of a difference to the owners.  People don't really go to pre-season games like that.  It appears the owners believe they will make more money on tickets and such with two more regular season games.

HOWEVER

With the current trend of resting star players for teams that qualify for the playoffs, those star players would be even more likely to sit out those last two regular season games.  So, essentially, the last two weeks of the regular season will be full of players that saw most of their field action in pre-season anyway.  What fans are gonna pay to see a Colts/Patriots game in week 18 with a bunch of replacement players?  And what fans are going to pay to see a week 18 match-up betwunxt replacement players of the Bufflalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars that are already out of the playoff hunt?

Sounds to me like they'll essentially move two pre-season games to the end of the actual 16-game season.

Well, it's official:

NFLPA (players' union) decides to decertify and take their issue to the court, which means they may file antitrust lawsuits. NFLPA wants owners to show audited books of last 10 years of finances. According to ESPN, the biggest issue is still that splitting of $9 billion. NFL wants players to get 44% of $9 billion while the players want 50% of $9 billion, which means both sides are about $540 billion apart.

What a sad day in America....SMH!

The players who saved money are on top of the world.  They'll miss the money, but they get some time off work and can just chill/travel/live comfortably with their millions in the bank.

The players who spent all the money fast cars and fast women will be kicking themselves.

So has anyone heard about the rule changes for the new season (if there is one)?

The owners voted to move kickoff to 35 yard line, which could cause increase in touchbacks.

Also, they voted to allow all scores to be reviewed from booth (if necessary).

Article explains rule changes better.

Didn't read the article, but I can't figure out why they'd want more touchbacks.  More touchbacks will mean less scoring.  On the other hand, it may also mean fewer injuries.

That's probably their logic, but the kickoff return is such an awesome part of the game.....*sigh*

http://www.profootballweekly.com/2011/03/29/cam-newton-scouting-report

So here's a scouting report on Cam Newton. There's still a lack of agreement on where he'll go in the draft. Some have Carolina taking him #1 (I kind of don't think they should). The scouting report has him somewhere between 1-15. Some are criticizing this report as being racially driven.

What do you think?
