I just purchased a slightly used Portable Grand DGX -505 Piano for $350.00 It's practically new---some of the packages (CD's) weren't ever opened. Was this a good deal? Just want to know----- [It a Yamaha]
It has a lot of things that I can do---but what I want mostly is for this friend of mind to record (it has 5 places for that) some songs so that I may learn to play them. I already know how to play---just not that well---you know---not many fill-ins. I want to learn more on this piano and eventually donate it to the church--but I want to know how to play it before I do that.
Does anyone else have one of these---what are the features you find great--what should I spend my time learning first? Thanks for comments!
While I'm not an expert, I have a DGX model. It's pretty decent if you just want something to play on in your room. It's not so decent for recording. The keyboard comes with spaces to record user songs as well as 5 tracks plus a track that will only record beats built into the board. In the other 5 layers you can record what you want. The big issue is if you mess up while recording you have to stop, go back to the beginning and start recording the song all over again. It's such a pain in the butt! If you want more than 5 instruments in a song you have to double up on a track or so by using the memory bank to switch between the two instruments.
If your friend doesn't make a lot of mistakes when playing this won't be a huge problem because there won't be a lot for him to go back and redo.
One great feature I like about my board (and your board may have it too) is the USB feature. You can save your user songs onto a jump drive then clear and reuse the user song on your board.
