Name 'em!

This is NOT a "Who's the greatest" thread.

It could just be an athlete whose game/personality you really liked, even if he/she wasn't the greatest.

One of mine:

SCOTTIE PIPPEN

He wasn't the best scorer.
He wasn't the best defender.
He wasn't the best passer.
He wasn't the BEST anything actually....

But he was exceptional at EVERYTHING!

He practically invented the Point Forward role that Lebron James is operating in.

He was a great ball handler, great passer, one of the league's best defenders, an excellent rebounder, and a talented scorer (dude once went 19-27, for 47pts).

When Jordan retired all Scottie did was lead the Bulls in Points, Steals, and Assists, and he was second on the team in Rebounds.  He was the MVP of the All-Star game that year too.  The Bulls had 55 wins that year and went to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Wow.

The next season Jordan returned towards the end of the season.  That year Scottie led the Bulls in scoring (21.4 ppg), rebounding (8.1 rpg), assists (5.2 apg), steals (2.94 per game and first in NBA), and blocked shots (1.13 per game).  Yes, he led them in five different categories.

Because he played with MJ he may never get his due.  That's ok.  I see u Scottie.

Troy Aikman; Joe Montana

Tough as nails

Clutch

Most accurate passer (in his prime)

Humble

No off-field issues

With the exception of Manning (who I also like), they don't make 'em like that anymore. *sigh*

Being a NBA fan plus a former PG I must go two fold and choose Nick Van Exel an Tim Hardaway.

-Both were deceptively quick and could score with the best.
-They also dropped dimes when there was no space to even breath.
- Nick for being a lefty
- Tim for one of the deadliest crossovers you'll ever see.

I could go back and talk about some overlooked guys like Eric "Sleepy" Floyd, Thurl Bailey, Sherman Douglas, Otis Thorpe, Walter Davis, Alex English, Fat Lever.................................. .and more.
We have an obligation to the generation.

Scottie is one of my All-Time faves period.  Aside from him, I love AI.  Though he's really going through some issues right now, his history as a tireless, undersized workhorse will keep him in my mind as one of the game's all-time greats.  In his prime, he was consistently one of the league's leaders in scoring and steals.  Despite playing mostly with mediocre talent, he played every game as if it were the championship.

Guys I also like/liked:

Donovan McNabb
LeBron James
Dwayne Wade
Peyton Manning
Steve Young
Hakeem Olajuwon
many more.

I remember watching him play for Texas (and I don't even follow Texas like that) and thinking, "Man, that kid is gonna make a mark in the NBA!".  What an understatement.

He'll be the best Offensive player in the game before long.

Purnell "Sweetpea" Whitaker- that dude was one of the best boxing technicians I have ever seen.  The only knock on him was that he wasn't a power puncher.  He didn't really need to be because he made every opponent look silly with his defense and quick hands.
