Well if you have the basic understanding of major and minor scales, you are 90% there.  As Doc Jon mentioned, check out T Block's posts.

You're question is too broad for me/us to give you the answer you seek. Are you having trouble forming the scales (knowing the notes to play)? Trouble playing them? Trouble using them in your playing? Please try to be a little more specific. Thanks!

Thanks a lot guys, actually to speak the truth when I saw T-Block's progressions I didnt b'lve my eyes-that I got all that information 4 free since I looked for such like 9 years. Remember as I used to say, there are no music schools nor music books here (Swaziland) yet there are christian music shops (selling cds, and literature), there only way I got a fundamental approach to music was through free theory on the internet, so I took them and ran away as if some one was running after me. Just imagine having a great need of at least $10 and then walking deparate in say a bush you find $200, what do you think would happen?

Thanks T for these questions, It's like you can read somebody's mind. I have little trouble with playing them & even more trouble with using them in my playing.

Which artists do you listen to?  A great way to get musical ideas and turn theory into something practical you can use is to study other musicians.  Even if you can't play their chops, there is a lot that can be learned from this.  And while some people may have convictions against doing this, you may have to look beyond the boundaries of Chrsitian/Gospel music - instrumental music in particular.

HAHAHAHA, that's what most good teachers do, they take what you're saying and try to get in your head and figure out what's really going on in there.

Anyways, my advice for you is to pick a specific scale to start working with instead of trying to learn a bunch at the same time. Which scale are you most interested in learning about right now?

Israel, TD Jakes, Marvin Sapp, Jonathan Nelson, Donny MacClurkin, Fred Harmond, Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary, Don Moen, Hillsongs, Kelly Price, Tramin H & Many More American Gospel Artists. I also like old school RNB and some jazz like: Bob James, Kirk Whalm, four Play, Norman Brown, Larry Arlton & many more.

My ears have problems with rock+roll & hip hop. ;D

Thanks a lot T for this link. You know the greatest problem that I always have with scale besides major and minor is their FINGERING. So would you guys have 'mercy on me' pls ;D, share with me your suggested fingering for them.

A trillion thanks in advance

That's the problem everyone has with scales, well with playing in general. You have to take it key by key. Once u can play the scale decently in one key, then take it to another key. One cool thing about the major scales is 5 of them use the same fingerings. However, with other scales, the fingerings change almost with every key.

Are you able to play all 12 major scales decently? If not, then I honestly don't think learning the blues scale right now would be a smart move. If u really want to go on with it, I don't know if there is a post on here with blues scale fingerings in every key. I do know that there are other websites with that information on them.

I'll have to come back later and give some fingerings that I would use for the blues scale in every key.

Yes I do play all 12 Major scales decently & the minor scales pretty well. I think the reason to that is the fact that earlier in the years It was the most common information I would find from the net since I couldnt understand most of the other jazz theory stuff illustraed on the grand stuff.

I've just got this information from here http://www.musicandyou.com/pianofingering.html but hey Ihvnt practiced it yet since I dnt have the keyboard with me but hopefully it will be helpful to a beginner like me out there. My attention was taken by these words [THIS PATTERN WORKS ON ALL SCALES: Major, Minor, Blues etc.
Always work scale fingering around the black notes.]
and they are on the same post.

Let me hear from you fellas :)

The article is 100% acurate. Fingering is centered around the black notes for any scale. Shoot, I wish I had this article back when I was first started learning scales. I would've learned them much faster. I like how they explained about the chording as well.

Thanks a lot T & pls dont get tired of me. I like the way we do here, putting things on the table, breaking them down to be understood by even beginners like me. And besindes, doing something without any guidance can be so meanindless and a waste of time.

I'm having a keyboard problem right now, I ussually borrow one but this guy has started to play hide & seek games (everytime I take it, 2 keys or so won't be functioning and when he takes it every key will be fixed). It's time to purchase one though my budget doesn't allow but I'm in a process to adjust everything in order to get it.

thanks so much funkStrat_97 for the great advice too

I think I'm growing each day in this site, hope to come back soon with some little ideas ;D

May the Blessings, joy, peace and love of the Almighty God be with you guys everytime.

You're good. That's what I'm here for, to help people like yourself get better. Whether you realize it or not, even I am learning from you all. I'm still learning just like every other musician. I'm just thankful to be able to give back what I've learned.

This is why I play guitar. The fingerings are the same for all keys. :D
