First Impressions

How much does first impressions count/matter to you?

I"m asking this because one thing I've learned in life is that it seems like first impressions is really what counts and it's hard for people to view you any different after the first impression. You see what I"m saying? If you have a first impression of a person, is it hard to change your view after the first impression?

I will say that other people's first impressions of me don't really matter to me, but my first impression of others is very hard to change. It's actually funny that you asked this question because my cousin has a friend that I just don't like and everybody always asks me why, and I always tell them, he gave me a bad first impression and I don't care for him. We were just talking about this situation a few nights ago.

I try my hardest not to judge people the first time we meet, but sometimes I can't help it! There are quite a few people I cannot stand and I cannot stand them based on the impression they first gave me. However I try and realize that I may be also loathed by someone else based on a first impression, so I try and keep an open mind.

Usually, I can be convinced that a person is okay, even if the first impression was bad.  However, there are some that are so bad, that it's a huge obstacle to me ever liking the person.  Those are rare for me, though.

Yep. It is very rare for me to dislike someone for a long period of time. Off the top of my head, there are only about two people i cannot stand.

First impressions matter a lot to me. That's why I make sure to be on my best behavoir (most of the time) cuz I know if I'm judging someone based on a first impression, someone else is doing the same to me.

I'm all for second chances. So, if my first impression of a person is negative, I'll give 'em another shot.

Sometimes I wonder on a personal level if certain people would have a better perception of me (not like that's the most important thing in life) if they had a better "first impression" of me.  :-\

You ever see a movie trailer and think to yourself that, based upon the clip you wouldn't like the movie- then, for whatever reason, you end up seeing the movie and really enjoy it?  Well, that's how first impressions are for me.  They're just that, a first impression.  Until I've seen the whole "movie", I tend to reserve judgement.

*Moment of Transparancy right here* Over the years one of my biggest downfalls has been judging people before getting to know them. Some of the most wonderful people I've met are those who I made an assumption before getting to know them. One thing I believe is that everyone has a story and everyone has life experiences. Getting to know a person can be so fruitful!

First impressions are weird for me because they do not normally happen when I first meet someone. Because I tend to forget the person and how we interacted. So maybe after the third or fourth meeting I remember the person enough to know if I should talk to that person any more.

That's probably not a bad thing, actually.

What about the reverse? When a person comes off attractive, friendly and charming, yet upon getting to know them you find a dark side to their personality...does that negate the positive 1st impression?

Well, to me it depends.  Are the negative traits the dominant traits, or are they just negative things that pop up from time to time?  If it's just a time to time thing, it may not necessarily negate my overall impression.

Good question and answer.  :)

It matters some...you can't always get the correct impression the first time you meet some people. So, I don't always go by first impressions. I'm not much for people who are loud and will say anything at anytime...so anyone like that I'd probably have a bad impression of them first time.

As for how people see me....I'm just me and if you get a bad impression the first time, that's probably what you were looking for. I'm a cool chic.. 8). LOL
