What is the most drastic thing you've done
« on: May 12, 2010, 02:54:15 PM »
...in a musical pinch. For instance I had to use my guitar as a bass today cuz there was no bassist and the keyboardist sucked.

Next.

I drew a blank and I'm sure I have one better than this but:

yeeeeeeeeeears ago I had to play (drums) at a jail. They were giving the inmates a little concert. The drummer for the first group finished, packed his drums, and took off to another gig. Which he was not suppose to do.

So basically, I played the whole concert sitting on a crate and just a snare inside another crate. ONE SNARE. WONDERFUL!  ::)

same for me, but..

we were getting ready to play at an outdoor event at a local college, and i was told by the guitar player for the band that went on before us that i could use his amp...

well we were getting ready to start our set, and he comes up and says basically, "hey, sorry but i gotta go now" so i had to run to my car, a couple blocks away, and run back with my amp... a fender twin.

man i was sweatin like all get out when i got back to the stage.

My friend's daughter (who is almost my age) was playing a gig at a club I just happened to show up at. She invited me to sit in, but the only guitar there was a 7-string tuned a half step down, and dude wouldn't let me tune it lol.

So I drove home (30 minute round trip) to get my guitar, and when I get back, everyone's in the parking lot.

They had shut the place down for the night because some bozo was starting fights and breaking stuff... This all went down in 30 minutes lol

I played bass guitar because our bassist was out and the song really needed a bass part.  That day the drummer (who is also the choir director) gave me a solo.  She waited until I was on an instrument that she knew I wasn't all that familiar with to give me a solo.  That song never had a bass solo until then and even after that time nobody on the bass was given a solo.  God must have worked that thing out because I thought it sounded horrible and people started to give me compliments.  As for the drummer, after church she said that I should stick with guitar because there are already a lot of female bassists.

I once used my guitar to KO a singer that couldn't hold a note....in a musical pinch of course  ;).

Frankly i do not care how much of a pinch i am in. If there is no drummer, i will NOT fill in that role. Drums are ridiculously hard to play.

See, I can lay down a basic Ringo Starr beat and even make it a little funky, but that's all I got.

Now, what I won't EVER fill in on: keyboard.
