Facebook question?
« on: May 25, 2010, 05:23:31 PM »
If you have "friends" on fbook who use profanity in posts do you delete them or keep them? I am still making my decision, & would love your opinion.

I've been thinking about deleting them.

I hide them then I can't see what they post. Now if they post curse words on my statuses and I've told them not to...then they get the boot.
Did you feed your spirit man today?

I don't like it, so if they're not family, I'll probably hide them and may delete them.  That includes people that talk about things I'm not interested in hearing.  If they're always negative or stirring up mess, I may delete them.

I have some cousins who say some things here and there.  Most of them add me, and other family members who command their respect, and they are pretty conservative with what they say... either that or they have me filtered.  Either way, I appreciate it.

I didn't even know you could hide :-[. So they see what you post but you can't see what they say? If so why even have them as "friends"?

I really didnt care until I realized that from my OWN blatant status' I could see them if I go to a friends friend list, and my status is there... so other people that I didnt even can see it. I think its a matter of preference. Out of the 380 friends that I have listed, if I deleted the ones that use profan language on FB, I would be left, with, well, y'all... :D That only accounts for like 6 people or so.

Good question.  I think it has to do with not wanting to hurt their feelings... but they don't care about mine if they don't care how they talk in my presence (or cyberpresence, lol).

For the most part, I'm with Nessa.

I don't have any family who uses profanity in their statuses, so that's not really one of my issues. I have had friends/acquaintances from high school or my old neighborhood or other random places who do a lot of cussing.

I have deleted all but one of them. Like Nessa, I also take issue with people who discuss stuff I'm not interested in hearing, whether it's profane or not. I had one FBF who always talked about sex and used vulgar words to describe body parts and sex acts. I'm just not interested in that, and I found it to be really annoying after a while, so I deleted him. I also deleted a prophet/acquaintance who used his statuses to advertise (brag about) his spiritual gifts and how "the Lord" used him prophetically. He's extremely accurate, the kind who can call out your telephone number, middle name, childhood address and all that. It got annoying to me so I deleted him.  I also had one who was Black Israelite (which is fine by me). He always had all these inspirational messages and things that I ignored... but then he started insulting people of other faiths, and I didn't like that, so I deleted him.  I've deleted at this point all those who use profanity, except one person, and that's because as I was about to delete, the Lord spoke to me and said "don't let go of her." *sigh*

Only one person has expressed offense and that was the prophet, who now gives me the very cold shoulder and barely speaks to me at all.

Oh one other thing, I don't warn anyone first because I feel like that's YOUR page and YOUR keyboard so you can type whatever you want, and if I don't like it I should just...  ;)

I've blocked one person for not just using profanity, but saying some crazy stuff. I've blocked or deleted a few more people because they kept posting too many statuses about stupid stuff. I rather block than delete because I can still advertise my business to the person. some of the profanity  bothers me, but most of it doesn't :-\

Yeah, same here.  I figure I'm the one with the problem, since I'm connected to your world and you should be comfortable being you.  I feel like some of my old hs friends probably don't appreciate my praising God via FB status, and I think a few have deleted me.  I can't figure out who they are, so they must not have been extremely important to me, lol.  But there's no offense there, I can say whatever I want on MY status, and if someone doesn't like what I say or is annoyed or bothered, by all means they should delete me.  I ain't trippin', lol!

When you block someone on FB, you have cut all communication with them. They cant see you you cant see them... And if they try to find you by name they cannot, and they cannot send you messages, they cant even respond to messages that you may have sent back and forth... I dont think that the BLOCK option would allow for them to still be advertised to, at least thats not the case with folks I have blocked, they thought that I deleted my account all together... I think that route is a bit harsh anyway...

You can manipulate your account in a lot of ways. You can limit visibility of your status' to Friends Only, and then take a step further by electing to share the status with everyone Except for so and so... I love that option...

You know, that really annoys me... that people hold the value of the relationship in their status on your FB friends list... SMH. Like folks really get mad when you delete them. I have deleted people on accident, and I have been cussed out and all that... Dang, I cant believe people really take it that serious.

And that's why I refuse to get caught up in the hype of these "social" networks. They don't seem all that social.  ::)
