Vocal Improv Exercise
« on: May 30, 2010, 09:50:29 PM »
This video is about a bunch of high school kids who can really sing.  Singer/Songwriter/Vocal Coach, Eric Arceneaux, went to SEED Public Charter School to do a vocal workshop with the kids in this drama class and they did really really well.  A majority of the video is them improving with certain topics.  I thought I'd share this here because it might be something fun you may want to do with the singers at your church just for fun and to build their confidence.

One of my favorite parts, which I think ends too soon, is "See u Smile".  If that's not taken from someone's song, that could be EASILY turned into a gospel song!

High School Musical... the real life version

Kodak Instuh-mah-tac, thank you ever so much for this post.  It blessed me tremendously.  Wish I was afforded moments like this coming up. I loved every minute of it.

Vocal Improvisation is singing in the moment. This requires deep listening, allowing the thinking mind to quiet. Begin with breath.  Then a sound. Listen to the sound. One sound leads to the next.  It does not have to be difficult or complicated. When we are talking -we are making it up as we go along. Same with vocal improv- we make it up as we go along.  Therefore-there is no right or wrong! Yet there are skills in listening and structures to help us create from within, sing powerfully from our heart and connect with our authentic self and others.
