@jlynnb1: Thanks for the tip.

I just started working on this song and I realized my low E string doesn't go low enough for the first part. :( ugh! That means they're not using standard tuning. :(

The notes for the first part are:

D, A, C, D, F, D
D, A, D, C (they actually play a chord here, but this note sticks out. Later I'll use this to find th chord)

D, A, C, D, F, D
D, C, A, G, Low D, F

Sooo...because of the low D maybe it's safe to assume it's drop D tuning. *puts on Sherlock Holmes hat* Elementary my dear Watson. 8)

Isn't it funny when you remember something worse than what it really was? That's how I'm felling right now about this alternate tuning :D.  Okay. I'll shut up and practice now.

Lol. I felt I made a big deal over having to drop d tune in my first post wheb really all I habe to do is drop the low E to a D. When I was younger I used drop D to play "Kiss from a Rose" and it seemed like this big deal because I remember having to tune my entire guitar. What I forgot was my guitar was out of tune anyway and I was already frustrated that day. Now drop tuning isn't that big of a deal. I jsut said what I said before thinking that maybe I made too big of a deal out of it in the post before that.

Well...that was a mouth full.:)

BTW to the thread: the chord is C-G-C. :)

Oh, and the whole "I'll shut up now" part was supposed to end my kiddie "look what I found" posts. So much for that *points to her last comment about the chord.* :D :D. Since this is my personal goal I'm going to stop posting new findings.

Drop D is super-useful. I probably do a good half of my writing in it. Maybe more lol

I just prefer the sound. An open D in drop D sounds so much better to me than an open E in standard.

However, for this purpose, it makes that quick riffing much easier, as well.

Enjoy picking this apart. I wish I had time to sit down with it just to challenge myself lol

I can see the usefulness of drop D tuning while power-chording.

Yeah, you can chug one fingered power chords, but it opens up a lot more than that.

Especially when fingerpicking. Makes the alternate bass lines and melodies much simpler.
