It took me a few days to convince my wife that we should get one.

So we sat down with a writing untensile and paper and realized that neither one of us owned anything LOL. We still wrote some sort of nonsense that is definetly not legally binding ... in fact I don't even know where it is.

I suppose the real question is if you are a christian why are you making plans in case you get divorced? In that case I feel you should not get a prenup

On the other hand what happens if someone is marrying just to steal from you?

I wonder if Mark 3:27 would apply here ....  Anyway Marriage is a binding contract ... Naw I think I'm stretching it. ...I'm just going to be quiet. Could someone give me some insight if Mark 3:27 would apply here? I'm leaning towards no because Jesus is talking about someone breaking into you home. Where as here I am talking about a sweet talking lady marrying you with the intention of getting half your stuff.

OKay back to the original post. Christian couples should not need to worry about a prenup because hopefully they will have a long lasting and fruitful marriage.

Yeah.....but the reality of Christian marriage is that we have a divorce rate that at best is equal (or "slightly higher") than that of non-Christians.

I totally disagree with that.

I have personal reasons for keeping my name until the day I die. It has nothing to do with women's liberation, not honoring my husband (to-be), wanting to be independent or be my own person or anything like that. I made a decision as a child that I would ALWAYS keep my name, and as I got older, I never changed my mind about that. Any man who marries me has to accept that. Period. It took my ex-fiance a minute to get that, but after a while, he did. Dude was determined to have me take his name.

B3W's wife also uses her maiden name, along with his name, and there's no doubt in my mind they wouldn't need a pre-nup. Those two are stuck with each other for life. LOL!!! (sorry for bringing you into this B3W). Seriously though, they are tight. The name thing does NOT mean that a woman is planning on bouncing or doesn't honor the marriage or whatever.

well...I know a couple in which the wife changed her name (WHILE SHE WAS MARRIED!!!) because to me she was being rebellious.

Can't take part of me....sorry.

Yeah, that does sound like rebellion, but I won't rush to judgment since I don't know anything about that.

IRT the part in bold, I understand men who feel that way. I think a vast majority of men feel that way. But my question to you is: if you feel like your name is such a significant part of you, can you respect a woman who feels the same way about her name? From what I've seen, most women DON'T feel as though their name is a significant part of who they are, whereas men do. But can you at least acknowledge that there ARE some women who identify as strongly with their names as men do? Can you acknowledge that as much as your name is "part of" you, there are some women who feel the same about theirs?

Actually, my wife only goes by her name, but it's not because she didn't want to change it. I told her to keep her name. I like it the way it is. I married Monique Webb, not Monique Brown-Floyd. I married her because of who she was, not because of anything that had to do with me. She just stuck my name on there for Facebook.

Pre-nups are bad news cuz they create division right from the start. You shouldn't go into marriage with a back-up plan.
