First Time to Accompany Choir Myself-At Another Church
« on: June 28, 2010, 09:23:17 AM »
So this church was having an Annual Choir Annivesary/Appreciation. Our preacher spoke and our choir sang Oh Give Thanks and I Woke Up in The Morning and I accompanied on organ. The head musician went on vacation after church. The church served us lunch. After lunch I had some time to meet with the drummer and rehearse before we went on. That was the only other musician besides the church organist. Until she found out who I was she started freaking out when I sat down at the organ. Understandable, and I was just nice about it and introduced myself and she calmed down. It was an older but very nice A100 with a brand new 147 Leslie. I didn't know what the protocol was for when our preacher started shouting, and I was sitting in the back. I waited, and she never got up to play, so me and the preacher took it home. Biggest church I have played for yet. Most nervous I have been. A lady came up to me after church and told me she liked the 1st song and to keep on with it. I just thanked her and ignored her little dig. I know I am new at this stuff and don't play exactly like most of you guys on here, but my church appreciates me and that's enough for me.
Thanks for letting me hang with you guys!

This is where you have to use your "musician's skin", c3, and don't take it personally.  It could be that she didn't mean anything by it at all, and really just wanted to encourage you.

Or, she could have just not been used to hearing a style like yours, and assumed that you were a beginner.  Either way, your church loves what you're doing, God loves what you're doing, and you enjoy playing, so keep it up!! :)
I will bless the Lord at all times, and his praise shall continually be in my mouth...

Thanks, you are right, she might not have meant it that way.

I don't mind being called 'a beginner' anyway, I pretty much am compared to most if not all of you.

The organist they have plays real quiet, but our preacher shouts before he is 1/2 way done, so when he gets really wound up at the end he does whatever it is called that is louder than shouting, so I don't she would have been a good organist for him anyway!
Thanks for letting me hang with you guys!
