New Bass LEJ6
« on: June 29, 2010, 12:25:08 PM »
Hey

About 5 years ago I was at NAMM in Anaheim, CA and got a chance to play all the basses I could possibly think of quite a few basses. One I really liked was the Lowend LEJ6; the neck was flat like my Lakland 55/02 and has a modern edge to it. Well GOD has smiled on me and I got one the a trade.

I am loving it now.

That is a nice one.  So are you saying that is exactly the one you played or one just like it?  Either way it's cool to persevere and get the one you want.

Peace,

No not the exact one I played at NAMM but really close. The one at NAMM was 21 frets this one is 24 that is the only difference.

A great investment young man.  A friend of mine endorses those.  They make them about 20 miles up the road from me.

Sweet instrument!

I just took a look on their website to browse through their models.  I noticed that the pickups on the 5 string models are the same size as the 6 strings.  Where I would normally rest my thumb on the top of the pickup would be quite some distance from the strings and one heck of a stretch.  I do switch between that thumb rest position and the floating thumb technique, but I think I would struggle using a 5 string with such a long pickup length.

Saying that, I would still love to test drive one.  Great looking basses!

Actually the pickup on the 5 is a little smaller. But I go between floating thumb and playing against the front pickup. You really would enjoy the test. The basses are really cool a kinda vintage tone control similar to my Sadowsky. Except the tone control work both active and passive. Because the fingerboard is maple it has bright tendencies the tone control comes in handy. I think you will enjoy.

Edit: These basses have a passive/active tone control kinda like my Sadowsky. Because my bass has a maple fingerboard it can be kinda bright. When it is passive it functions like tone knob on a Fender. When Active this control helps me to tame the high frequencies. Sorry for the crazy typing earlier.
