Masters of the Grill...
« on: June 30, 2010, 04:27:58 PM »
...I need your advice.  I am a novice, having been given a gas grill by a friend of my wife who recently got married (and they basically have two of everything).  The one thing that I need to know is this: where do you stand on the gas vs. charcoal issue?

I use both.  When I'm in a rush, I use Gas, if I have a lot of time, I use charcoal/wood.

Maaaan I cooked some baby back ribs yesterday using a charcoal grill and although they were good, that grill had my eyes burning and watery!! The smoke was killing me! The charcoal smell was stuck all over me, in my hair....needless to say I'm going to invest into a gas grill lol...
Did you feed your spirit man today?

I'm a die-hard BBQ fan, funk, and I prefer wood over charcoal, and charcoal over gas.  However, you can't beat FREE!! :D ;D :D

Have fun with it!

I dont cook, but I like charcoal better. Yeah, its more work than gas but the food taste so much better. Plus you cant roast marshmallows on a gas grill.

I prefer charcoal.. and when I do meats other than chicken I usually slow bake it at @ 200 for at least 4 hours before I grill it.. and sometimes I marinade it the night before as well... Fallin off the bone goodness there. In fact we just grilled this weekend for Mambear's birthday.. WE had a BBQ at my house for her and the trombone player.. his birthday was Sunday hers was Monday.. Ironically his wife's birthday is the day after mine 4 weeks from now.. so we will be doing it all again at his house next month... LOL.

You can't beat the flavor from a charcoal grill, but you can't beat free either.  Maybe you can trade the gas grill for a charcoal grill.

My father had a gas grill back when I was a child.  He used it as it was designed to be used for a while.  He got tired of dealing with that gas and probably wanted that grilled taste too.  One day he permanently unhooked that tank, poured charcoal in that joint, and the rest is history.

Actually, I think you just hit on it, bruh. Unhook the gas tank, pour charcoal in that joint, and call it a day.

Free grill...with the charcoal taste.  8)
