MDM vs. J(unk) Callowhill

Sup Fellas,

Right now it seems like the J(unk) line is the most sought after line of the Callowhill basses. I was just wondering your opinions as to why you think that is the case. And which would you rather have? I know it?s a preference of tone, but I wanna hear your opinions. Is it that suped up jazz basses are the ?thing? right now, or is it a unique characteristic that they posses? Personally, I?ve heard what the MDM and J(unk) series sound like and they both are on point!  Any thoughts on the Infini as well? God Bless!

Sorry, I never played either of these basses. From what I hear on LGM, they are good basses.

MDM all the way. the most beautiful bass i've ever seen. While the headstock on that Junk is where its at, that Fender-style body makes me cringe sometimes, simply because its a Fender-style body.

Have to fight the urge to play the lotto to buy one. That may be (Lord willin') my next after next bass. Hopefully i'll be niiiiiice enough to deserve to grace on of those bad boys.

Same here. I've tried to like uncontional style bodies but I always come back to Jazz (or Jazz like) style bodies. They just work for me.

having owned a J(unk) for over 2 years, another for about a year, and a MDM for about 14 months (see my profile pic) I can say that the MDM wins hands down in regards to comfort, access, and feel. The mdm's neck profile was slim, fast, and THIN.  The mdm also weighed like 7 lbs (no kidding and this was a 6 stringer). The junks sounds awesome through and through, but when you get your hands on a MDM you can FEEL the difference.  

I had a bass with Nordstrand Dual coils and an aggie obp-3 & obp-2.  In all honesty I didn't too much care for that electronics package.  I think Big Splits or Big Singles would have sounded nicer.  The dual coils could get a real creamy tone to them though.

I can kind of sympathize with Tim as to why he calls them J(unks) vs the MDMS.  You really don't understand until you have them both side by side.  They're both really really good basses, but the J(unk) is really like the under educated and less sophisticated brother of the MDM.
