Epiphone Les Paul Oxblood
« on: August 03, 2010, 06:20:18 PM »
Among the many on-going debates within the guitar community is the Gibson vs. Epiphone thing.  My intention is not to bring that horse out for yet another beating, but rather to say that some of the Epiphone models seem like really good guitars (at least on paper) at a budget friendly price.  Case in point, the Epi Les Paul Oxblood.  I'm not saying that this thing is on par with even a basic Gibson Les Paul Studio, but baring any major QC issues, this thing can't be a bad guitar for the money.

They are different guitars, but you could make that guitar good!

The price is good, so you can get a killer setup, maybe change the tuners, and swap out the pickups.

Epiphones are not bad guitars for the money.
They're meant to provide people with the Gibson experience (?) at a much lower price point, but they're not Gibson replacements. Different woods, different electronics, different finishes all make up the difference in price, feel and sound.
FYI: that Oxblood is meant as a tribute to Jeff Beck who use to play a '54 Oxblood Les Paul for a while.
Gibson released their version a while back:

It's a deal at $25k

:( :( :(...umm; why does that guitar cost more than my late-model car?  And you can finance it at an affordable low monthly payment of $2,500.00.  Wow; can you imagine how the conversation with the Mrs. would go:

Mr. funkStrat: Honey, I just bought a new $25,000.00 Les Paul.  Isn't she gorgeous? ;D

Mrs. funkStrat: (grabs gun and proceeds to shoot Mr. funkStrat)

This concludes the conversation between Mr. and Mrs. funkStrat regarding the topic of a $25,000.00 guitar.
