What do yall think?
« on: August 02, 2010, 08:44:26 AM »
Do you think that by having your own group/community choir/whatever, it takes away from the essence of playing? I mean i was thinking, when you have all these obligations and headaches (cuz I'm sure it can be) sometimes I guess it would feel more like a chore to play or to write and produce because thats your means of income. Or being the artist and feeling the pressure of putting out a single that is marketable and lucrative. I mean I think I'd rather just be a church musician because although we're not gettin paid its so enjoyable (not sayin that these cats dont enjoy themselves) Dont get me wrong I'd TRAVEL with a group for a lil while (if The Lord elevates me to that) but I dont think I'd ever start my own. Whats your take?

It's like starting a business.  Could the responsibilities of running a business take away from the passion of doing what you love to do?  Potentially yes.  But it all depends on how you manage it.

I think it depends on the level of your playing.  Getting "on the job" experience is always a good thing.

Even with all the hassles of organization, rehearsal, dealing w/flakes, etc. the payoff comes in ministry, to the glory of God. You never know whose hearts will be touched!

...plus there's the networking and connections, the people you meet who could affect your future...

True true. All that makes perfectly good sense. The business side of it would be the issue. Then on top of that u still gotta deal with the group members themselves. I don't think I would turn down the opportunity tho. Especially if I'm not the group leader. I'm sure the experience alone is worth it feel me
