look i am trying to get my church to have better music. and i play the drums. but my friend danny plays the bass. and i would like to knoe if anybody knoes how to play spanish music on the bass. like salsa and merengue. we are a spanish church and we play spanish church songs. i knoe how to play salsa and merengue on the drums. but of course every drummer needs a bass player and vise versa.

I guess two sources would be (1) your local music store, who may have instructional books and CD's, and (2) You Tube.

I'm sure there are some bass players here with the Latin feel. You may want to be more specific in you post titles. Some people will over look it if it just says help. :)

The band I play in is very multicultural.. we have members from Peru,Hati,Korea,The U.S.,Columbia and Ghana.
Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.

I guess for Bass players the Root of each chord is the starting place. If he can cover that on most tunes, good.

But Latin music tends to have lots of bass movement. scales, 1-3-5 arpeggios on chord tones, etc.
So I second the emotion on YouTube - there might even be some Bass tutorials on your favorite songs...

I also recommend "The Latin Bass Book".  I LOVE it and its a great resource for anyone looking to delve into Latin.  Other than that, listening to it and playing along with it helps.
