Black in America...The Black Church special
« on: August 26, 2010, 02:00:10 PM »

Click here for one person's opinion.

I'm probably not going to watch this because (1) I'll probably be doing homework (2) If I remember to watch it, I'll probably end up yelling at the TV.  I've yet to see ONE television station host a show about something in the black community (which a lot of times is prevelant in other communities too, but made to look like, "a black thing") in a way that is objective and non-stereotypical.

I've only seen bits and pieces of the previous installments of "Black in America" and I can't say I loved it. (I can't say I hated it either, but I don't remember enjoying myself.)

What do you think of Soledad O'Brien continuing "Black in America" with a show about the black church?  What topics do you think she'll touch on?  What topics to you think she'll ignore?  If you've seen the previous "Black in America" specials, do you think that Soledad O'Brien is doing a good job at being objective?

I might have to plug in a television for this one.

I am a huge fan of Soledad, and though I haven't really followed each installment of the Black in America series, I don't doubt that it will be objective and compassionate, as Soledad usually is. She tends to be very "relatable" so I'd rather she do the series than some other journalist. Plus, I think it might be cool to get the perspective from someone who isn't "churchy." I mean, I guess Lexi or Juanita or TD could do it, but that would be so biased. I think Soledad would be a bit more unbiased and objective, but we'll see.
When you're in love you don't want to fall asleep bc reality is finally better than your dreams.

I found this video with Soledad hosting a forum about the black church.  I doubt this footage will be used in this special, but maybe she'll touch on some of these topics in the CNN special.
