Future of LGM
« on: September 20, 2010, 08:41:13 PM »
I was browsing through the Piano room and saw a comment that made me pause. The person complained about a lack of responses to threads, and he stated that it seems Youtube has taken a lot of traffic away from LGM. I noticed this too.

So is it possible to play up or add certain features such as videos and such? I am a member of a guitar forum that has dedicated teachers who teach different styles (you pay of course). I know that there is a video section, but it is pretty primitive (IMO, no offense).

Any other ideas or thoughts on the site's future?

I would love to see rooms like the Jazz room be revitalized (its pretty much dead as it is).

We could also have more specialized rooms like "Urban Gospel" or "Home Studio Equipment" and such.
I realize this is not my site, but there is a lot of hidden potential locked in this site. I also know it is in NO WAY easy to implement change. :)

Personally, I think the very model of the message board is starting to get old.

LGM could use same games like farmville ... but with gospel music.

There could be a level where you have to go to the bishop or pastor or whomever to ask for a raise LOL!!!

Just kidding sorry I got side tracked

but yeah forums are kind of old like ham radios

You have a point there. The forum model is starting to get old. I guess people want a more dynamic way of interacting with others.

However it still serves a purpose. I would prefer to get detailed music info from a forum than some dude on facebook telling me "U cn play d 2 wit d 5 cord". :)We can add more dynamic features to this site.

maybe use open ID? for those who tend to forget their passwords

what about having the forum update like real time status updates? So that way I don't have to hit refresh  ::)

A bar across the bottom like facebook? so you can open the chat window without having to navigate to a separate page?

A tool that allows chords/patterns for any instrument to easily be shown? this is the greatest strength of LGM the sheer volume of knowledge. The tool should allow those to have the knowledge to more easily disseminate that knowledge.

Advertisments on facebook and youtube? This could easily be by word of mouth. whenever someone posts a youtube video we can just include a link to the thread where intend to post the video on youtube. It would drive traffic to LGM.

Start a community service project where the purpose is to find a church that suffered some sort of hardship like all their sound equipment was stolen. And we would send out emails and ask around to raise funds to either purchase or help purchase equipment. This would be limited to once a year or something. That way we are helping our brothers and sisters around the world.

The forum/message board thing will never get old to me. I've been contributing my opinions and thoughts to message boards since the 90s and I love it.

As long as the forums are here, I'll be here. I do realize, though, that you can't force a stimulating topic and sometimes, it DOES seem like we've run out of things to discuss. You can't force discussion and can't force people to contribute. So I don't have the answer to that. *shrug*

I would love to see something like this. Having real time updates as soon as new posts are made.

The chat thing could be a bit difficult to implement though. I don't know jack about programming but i don't know how easy it could be to implement a facebook-ish chat box with the thousands of members that are on the site.

I think this is what i am trying to get at. There is a HUGE amount of knowledge on this site, most of it scattered here and there in stickies and random threads. There has to be a way of arranging the information. For instance the guitar forum i am a member of has a sections for different styles of music such as blues, jazz, funk, and so on. Its pretty cool.

BTW i am NOT trying to institute a coup d'etat here. :) These are just issues i was mulling over in my mind.

I remember sometime ago 4HG (I think it was him) commented that there were a lot of lurkers (sp) on LGM. I was a member for 2 years before I actually commented on a topic, and the first response I got back was VERY nasty in return. Luckily I like to fight and argue (yes I said fight and argue) and it sparked my interest even more, and well, 5 years later... :-\ I dont think there is an answer for the question. I just think like in some other ministries, there will be the faithful few that will continue to participate, while the others who just spectate.

Just because people dont respond doesnt mean that they arent looking either. You can see that from looking at how many times a thread will be viewed versus how many people actually respond.

I know not all of us can read music but imo it is the best way to share music.

Interestingly enough, I use that site with my 8th graders.

Is there a better way to show the work you done on noteflight here on LGM?

Or is the only way to post the url?
