I do that waaay too often.  ::)

We got in trouble this sabbath for jamming after church with a "rock sound". I'm a bit disappointed in the way the kids I was jamming with were disrespectful to the adult who told us to "play some melody", though. It's hard to play melody, though, when all you know are three chords, :/

I really like Sister Rosetta Tharpe's tone on "Didn't it Rain". It's so transparent.

What is your church band made of?

Pfft!

Gibbers is probably playing a boring ol' Prince pent scale. I bet he isn't even adding the b5 note...

I see an amp in the background. Are you plugged directly into the house PA system or do you run you amp modeler through an amp? I ask because i have noticed that running those modelers through an amp make 'em sound like crap.

I run mine in the front of the amp and it sounds good to me.  Some of the amp modeling sounds aight in front of the amp.

My pod xt live has an output setting for an amp, PA system, amp head etc.  Usually people run it through the effects loop but I put it in front.

I will run mine through the church mixer and see how it sounds.

My issue is this: if its an amp modeler, why run it through an amp?

Oh no you didn't... lol

Because you can't "effectively" model the sound of a speaker physically moving air (despite the "air" control on some modelers lol) (my opinion).

if you're running a modeler in the front of an amp, make sure your cab simulation is off... shoot... now I just sound like Jlynnb1...  :P  ;)

I'm just curious, is there anyone here other than I who plays without any effects (other than overdrive)?

Nope, you are not the only one. In fact for the longest time, i didn't use any effects whatsoever...nor even overdrive.  I am just now getting into using effects.

For the longest time, my rig was guitar>wah>amp. When I started playing in church, it was guitar>amp (granted, amps don't have clean cannels, so the OD is assumed  ;) ).

It wasn't until a few years later that I threw a chorus, trem and univibe clone in the mix (Dano Chicken Salad), and reintroduced the wah.

However... even when I'm jamming with my friends in the garage, the Wah and the boost/ODs are the only thing that really gets play.

I'm very meat and potatoes.

It's all in the touch, guitar volume, and amp, really. There's 15 different tones right there.
