New Old Bass player :)
« on: October 12, 2010, 04:39:32 AM »
I want to thank all of you.
I am 48 years old and I have picked up the Bass again (after 20 plus years) and seeing and hearing all of you blessed musicians
really have encouraged me to play and take it seriously (I am always on youtube Ha!).
I used to just play whatever I heard "back in the 70s and 80s" but I see times have changed as well as Gospel music, especially the bass lines where now not only do we hold the bottom but emphasize the sound when needed. I never learned to read music, chords, notes and I am now learning chords and scales and...., Wow! I missed out on a lot of things. Sorry to rant but I appreciate what you all share and hope to post some progress soon. Be blessed continually and please,  continue to live the scripture Col 3:16.  :D

Thanks Bradley Moorer, PhBrown and Musicman_00. Hey I might as well ask! I am practising the G Major scale and doing Spider walks and I am going tomorrow to buy a bass chord/scale chart what else should I do to improve my playing I am kinda finding my style and not a copy too much of anyone but it is rough, very rough but it's getting there. I hang out at youtube, cyberfretbass as well as other sites.
Oh! And I am currently working nights for the next 3 months so if I don't get back to you until late in the morning that is the reason. Holla back at me. See I can be hip, LOL. Just jokes I dog out one of my young Bass friends here in VA named Rob, He is off the chart playing the Bass a Lakland 5 string. Any advise is welcome please teach this Jesus
freak smooth old guy sumtin.  :D
